Hi

I renamed and made a new site for my web design company. It is here: http://www.zenith-design.net/ Still heavily under construction. The text at the top of the big image says "Only the sky is limit".

It's not a bad start, use a sans-serif font for the text, preferably Verdana because the characters are better spaced at smaller sizes. The combination of the grey background and low quality image make the whole site look kind of drab, for lack of a better word. Try and use more images throughout the site rather than just relying on the HUGE image that appears at the top of everypage, which by the way, on lower resolution monitors, will be the only thing the viewer sees without scrolling down. Unless you're selling boats or travel packages, you may want to rethink the focal point of your site.

Thought I went to a Windjammer Cruise site by mistake Laughing out loud

What I would do:
* Severely crop vertical from the pic (to bring content up from "below the fold")
* Give it a slight blur (to minimize it from being the focal point)
* Colorize it: Hue:about 150, Saturation: about 100 will better match the site colors

Don't forget about other browsers Wink

Your content is not centered in the Opera browser. (I'm using it and many others do).

Try to use more css styles instead of tag attributes, such as align, etc.

Put your javascript in the standalone file, i.e. main.js.

Imo, dont need to use the red color for the headers. You don't have any red in your picture. Experiment with the colors of your main picture for the headers.

And remove unneded white space. Make it more usable. Smiling

I would rethink the picture, or make it shorter. I barely see any content. I have to do some serious scrolling to get past the first few lines. Also, the Zenith Designs logo is taller than the rest of the black nav bar.

I agree with the chop of the picture. You cant see any content and that is the whole point of a website. Also you have two colors on the outside of your main content frame. Once you cut down your picture i would suggest making one light grey color on the oustide instead of a dark grey light grey change. I like your logo but you could make it bigger or more important than the picture which takes up the majority of the site. Bring focus to your company. Good work and keep it up.

Thanks for comments. Now that I think the image really is everything you see on 800x600. Luckily not many people uses it anymore. But it is a problem also on bigger resolutions. Althought sooner or later you have to start scrolling so why don't do it at beginning. But if user wants to quickly view every page, then it can be problem. I would like to crop the picture but it's not easy because there is not much I can remove.

I have fixed the issue with opera. I will also try to make logo behave like it should on Mozilla and Opera.

I will also consider your other suggestions.

I have been visiting relatives this past week, and every one of their computers is using 800x600. So does my HP by default.

its not bad but your jpg image needs to be cleaner.

But I guess your relatives are not people who need to buy a web site, right? Wink I trust that most of the people needing a site have decent computers (thought somebody with not so good eyes may still choose 800x600). But I don't deny it's too big. I do something to it when I have time.

The top image quality is bad, picture should be more clearer. Design is very basic but you did a nice job with the site colors.

The top image is TOO... big.
Menu could be on a side.
Year next to news would be good.

I guess I'm going to jump on the bandwagon and also say that top image is way too big!

You may disagree with me, but I've always felt part of the job of a design company is being able to create an effective logo / image for the client. If you can't create one for you're company I fear you may be cutting your own throat with future clients.

Try coming up with a stylized logo for your website. You can use a nautical theme if you'd like. Don't make it too tall because 1 large static picture is boring to look at (no matter what size browser window you have).

I like the clean look of your site. I feel if you can give your company an image with a stylish logo and consistant colors you'll be able to rake in the costomers. Smiling

gotta finish redesigning my sites so I can show them again.

I think you should put all text on another page. Keep the front page simple and stick to just the graphic

Not bad at all I like it very simple design layout. Though I cant read it it still looks good. The only thing I recommend is adding some more content to your homepage for SEO reasons.

Keep up the good work.

I'm curious - is it really such a good idea to take up the entire screen with an image? Wouldn't that space be better used trying to capture attention of your audience?

The portfolio seems a little empty - but that will fix itself with time.

I would also get rid of the stock photos - they just look a little "unreal"
