Would like some feedback ( First design for new company )
I just got hired with a new Company trying to "Beef up" there web development department. My first assignment was to re-design there site. It isn't public yet, and there are something I don't like about it, but can't quite put my finger on it. Please give me some feedback...
Old site : http://www.meierinc.com
My Version : http://www.meierinc.com/new_site
Thanks in advance... JN

Hello and welcome to TWF! As you can see I've moved your thread to the Website Critiques area. We'd appreciate it if you could help the others out and review some other sites. This forum wouldn't be here without participation from others.
Did you recently lanuch the new site? They both look the same to me. Overall it looks very good. Very professional looking. I'm impressed. The main thing I'm going to complain about is that there's nothing on here to indicate what this company does. The three links there on the navbar are rather jargon-ish. The meaning of "A&E" and "CAD" aren't immediately clear to me. I had a good guess but wasn't entirely sure. I guess it depends on who your target audience is. I also think that you should put a little more emphasis on your location. It's kind of hidden there in "about us".
The other thing that's bugging me is the size of that dark gray bar across the top. I'm thinking it should be bigger, although that would push the content down maybe a little too low at 800 x 600. I see that you're trying to go with a slightly different layout for the front page as compared to the rest of them, but I don't think it's quite different enough to show enough contrast between the two.
About Us - hey, I know where you got that photo! PhotoDisc Business Today or one of those. More on "Projects" I recognize...

I think overall the site looks professional (I like the colours) but, I agree with the first comment of what is the difference between the sites. Also the long list located on the right side I feel should be links. One more thought, is your target audience older? If so, your font choice might be too small.

no offense but I like the first one better, the second one, has the black strip across the top which I'm not sure why, the pictures on the about me page look washed out (or been sitting in the sun to long) also the pictures on the index give a engineering feel to the sight, the new ones are to generlised.
the projects page from the new one gave me a new window with a 404 error.
One thing I would do is to loose the big blank gap at the bottom of the pages.
I think your trying to fix somethings that isnt broken, I think you need to either fix a few things on the old one or take a whole fresh approach to it, they are to much the same so will be compared to one another

For those of you replying to this post on 11/06 and 11/05, the url http://www.meierinc.com is actually my version. It was approved by the "Big-wigs". The original site is now located :http://www.meierinc.com/OldMeierSite .
the /new_site was just the first version of my version. I changed the "homepage" to better match the rest of the site, and I really like the results. So did this company, they were absolutley thrilled.
Thanks again...
Cheers, JN
