Would be interested in opinions

I took over as webmaster for my company and would like some opinions on the website so far.
It's at http://www.land-roverco.com
The boss wants the color scheme to remain the same (green and yellow are Land-Rover colors...)
I have also been doing the website design for my friends small business and would like some input on the design so far. That website is located at http://www.users.uswest.net/~acafe for now (we are moving it to a new server soon that supports CGI.)
Any opinions and helpful suggestions would be appreciated.
Thank You,
Sean Kemp

Land Rover Site

Once again, is there a really good reason why you're using frames? Tables can accomplish more or less the same task and integrate better with the rest of the page, and you don't get ugly scrollbasrs in the wrong places. The order parts link breaks the frameset as well, which leaves you with no navigation to use.

I don't mind the icons at the top, they give your site a little bit of character, but the mouseovers really need to be reworked. Badly. Lose the red you've used occasionally - it doesn't go with the green, same with the mint green and bright green that pop up occasionally.

Overall I think you need to create a better look and feel for this site (take a look at Sue's hotrod site - that really projects an appropriate look for the topic). Think about the kind of visual ideas landrover could be associated with.

Anime site

This one also needs some work. Here we like to send people to coolhomepages.com for ideas when they really need to update their designs. The center pictures could possibly be salvaged with not too much work, but the rest needs to be redone from scratch. The table borders definitely need to go (or to shrink significantly), your gif's need to be done properly, you need a better colour scheme, better design elements...

Are you selling copies of original videos? You could get sued rather seriously for that! And another thing, don't like to pages that just say "Coming Soon!" That's really annoying. Just take out the <a href...> tag until you're ready to link to the new page.

From looking at these two pages, you might want to work on your graphics skills a little bit.... okay a lot...

Regretfully, the boss won't let me get rid fo the frame (the bookeeper thinks she knows more than I do, and convinced him that Frames are best...)
As far as the Anime site goes... We have somone currently working on some new graphics for us (a friend of ours who does AMAZING work...) since I honestly suck as a graphics designer...
Also, just so you know, we are selling ONLY legitimate commercial videos released for distribution in the U.S. This is a legitimate store located in Tacoma, and I am designing this site just as a favor to help them out. They do not sell illegal copies of any of their videos. The few videos that are marked "used" are ones that either we have gotten previously viewed, are selling on a cosignment basis for someone, or are previous rentals that they no longer want.
Thank You for the input on both sites.

1) I agree, you definantly don't need to use frames. You could EASILY accomplish what you want by using tables. Easily.

2) I don't like the image flips at all. I don't like how the background is a solid color. Also, some of the "icons" are jagged.

3) The BG color is very ugly, especially with the other colors you have.

Overall it needs some work.

Why is it everytime someone refers to a Land Rover they always use Green and yellow? I mean I know Landrovers colours are green but that background is a bit pukey. I like the little icons you did they are a nice touch. Not too fond of those two small tables You used at the bottom though! May I suggest removing the border and making the background a differant gradient of green or something. Except form that I agree with the above!

Sorry to say that: www.land-roverco.com makes me more feeling "buying a farmers old used tractor" than buying "Landrover Adventure" at an attractive price.

You probably already did, otherwise I'd suggest to take a look at www.landrover.com and follow the various links (eg. International: www.landroverworld.com).

Once there you will find that there can be done a lot whith a modified color scheme and may be you can also convience your boss that frames are not needed.

In addition you should read Dave Siegel's book "Secrets of successful web sites" which contains a report about www.landrover.com. It's the enthusiasm, the feeling of adventure, and not the "old" colors that makes out the excellent look of www.landrover.com.

I don't say www.landrover.com is the best on all aspects, but it's one of my favourite sites to discuss the do's and dont's.
