What do you think of this site? - About to redesign my site, critique this old one
I liked the site just like it is also. The best information you have recieved so far is from Carolyn. Join us regularly. Just a quick note. Under Web directory the sentence should read seven hundred web developing links. Lose the s in hundreds and the of.

Hi,
I am in the middle of redesigning my site. I wish someone could have a look at my site which is located at http://elara.hypermart.net/, and give me some opinion so that I can avoid the mistakes. If anyone of you are kind enough, tell me what features that I can add to my site.
Thanks in advance.

Well I'm affraid I'm not going to be much good here as I really like the site the way it is.
I would suggest a new logo and name though as I'm not to keen on them.

Hi Elara,
Looks like another great webmasters resource site.. I'm curious to what your plans for redesign already are -- colors, layout, content?
What I see here is a nice clean logical layout. Packed with great resources/information (700 links --- awsome -- I said packed but not cluttered, your links are VERY well organized, in fact I'm probably learning more from looking at your site then you will from this critique .
The one thing that graphically jumps out at me on the first page is on your banner -- the "javascript vault" link is too close to the search box.
web directory -- spacing looks a bit funny (right column is out of alignment) I'm looking in netscape, I'm not sure how to rearrange this info to make it fit.....I think I would make the yellow colors (e-zine and Categories) either the same, or more different, they are very close now, maybe something different like the peachy color in this forum?
Those were just little graphic observations, I"m not sure what you could add to your site to make it more informative, or better organized -- you have the e-zine, the resources, search feature etc..... Maybe a discussion forum like this or better yet, become a "regular" here
take care,

I'm very grateful that you guys can give me such good opinions. I will try to improve it in my next version of the site, and I'm thinking of changing the site into a full fledge web developers' site. Hope I can finish it .
I still need some opinion regarding the logo and the site name.
What do you think about the site name and logo? Do you think i should change the name to a web developing related name? I'm still struggling, if I were to change the site name, would there be any impact? Or would it cause confusion for my site visitors? As for the logo, I have design a new one, take a look at it and tell me how you feel, don't expect for good graphics, because I'm a photoshop lamer

Sorry for my poor English and thank you again for your opinions.
Cheers

Just on quick glance the logo looks a lot like the Internet Explorer E. You have some great stuff on your site. Maybe it would be good to go to the Graphic or Barter forum and ask for some help. The guys at Mountain Worldwide do some good work. Would be worth paying for a logo. IMHO the logo is one of the most important part of a website's image.

I'm glad that I can receive so much help in this board. This is my first thread on this board, and I'm starting to love this board. If you have browsed through other categories in this board, you'll find that I'm there too! . Thank you very much for the opinions and help guys. Thanks Carolyn, JP, Jim and also anti.
I will request for assistance on the logo shortly at the barter forum. BTW most likely I'm going to change the name because I have found a good name for it.
Thanks again.

I'm going to name it: devnation.com. What do you think? Is it appropriate, or should I retain the old one?
Thank you
