What do you think about sound on a first page?
I wonder what you all think of using sound on pages. When I hit pages that play a homemade song or a hit song I go on to another page instead. I have only found one page that did this with grace.
What do you think? Test here

That page didnt have any sound for me(I even turned my speakers on to see).
I think sound on web pages has been abused in the past so most people tend to dislike it, but people are adding it into flash as its easy, every newbie to flash usually does. I have surfed for about a year now with speakes always turned off, and only turn them on while listening to my own music.
If you dont really need it, or think twice about it, then you dont need it.

I did hear sound on that page but it took a bit to kick in (33.6). When the page is only offering me two options to click on (there's really no text to read), I'd be gone before it had a chance to load.
In general, though, I dislike music on sites, especially when it's auto-loading. Even when it's not and I'm given a choice to play it or not, it still takes time to download.
I'm on a Mac and the speakers are built in. If I get hit with loud music, I have to go into a control panel to adjust the volume. So I have a pair of old walkman-type headphones plugged in to keep the sound down. Nothing like a little late night surfing and all of a sudden the music's blasting and wakes up hubby in the next room.
Another thing is that I often open links in new browser windows. Put sound on more than one page, even if it's the same tune, and they're competing with each other and not in sync.
I have a personal site about a particular breed of cat and have visited many other personal cat sites. You would not believe how many of them have auto-loading midis of either "Alley Cat", "Cat's in the Cradle" or "Theme from Cats". I suppose they all think it's clever and original.
To me it's one of those "just because you *can* doesn't mean you *should*" issues.

These were my thoughts too. So it was only a test. The most important for our foundation is to have pages that have the speed. Fast load is everything for a person who only have 28.800 modem. Maybe in two years time there will be no more 28.800 modems running?
But it was nice to hear what you thought about this.
Thanks!!

I too surf with my speakers off! Unless the site is a music site or a really good flash site with decent music then I don't see the point, as most of it is just loops or bad sounding copies, then you have copyright issues as well. As you say as well a lot of people still have very slow connections so why make things slower for them.

I know people still using win 95 with 14.4 modem, I was one fo them up to mid last year, and I still use it, I call it ole faithful.
If I could, I'd love to eable to go backs to win95, never gave me a problem, never hiccuped , *sigh*
I think the small screens, the slow modems will sadly be around still at the end of our life times. people know if they buy something computer related today, tomorow its going to be out dated so keep what they have until it no longer goes, then replaces it.

I would say as a general rule, music on a webpage is not very desirable. If you do have music, the visitor should have a way to turn it on and off
