OK, I'm home sick with strep all day today and yesterday, so in that time I have put together a little Sopranos Web Site. (What can I say, it was either that or watching sope operas!!)

Please give me a review, and keep it polite but helpful. The site has a lot more work to be done.

Thanks, the URL is: http://www.geo.to/sopranos

THANKS

Well, it looks like a site I would see on Geocities...

1) The logo isn't the best. You have two different shades of red, and the color of the pinker red is messed up. Also- I don't really like the arrows; they serve to purpose. You need to get creative with it!

2) The menu needs some work also. You have those pictures of the characters on every page down the side, which is ok, but I would maybe put the menu there. The mouseovers do nothing to help the cause either. Wow- a box around the text. Who cares? Make the text change or something. Finally, why do you have those flames? It looks good, but it doesn't look right with the rest of the page.

3) The colors need some work also. Black just doesn't look good. I know it goes with the mood of the site, but with red... Uhg. Maybe change the red?!?

4) Finally, I got a TextCounter fatal error.

Overall it needs help.

Yeah, I just fixed the text counter.

Red and Black are the colors for the Sopranos.

I'll work on the men and the logo. Thanks.

Pretty good. Try to streamline your text some - put some headings in there to divide it up. You might want to read some of Jacob Neilsen's usability articles at http://www.useit.com - the one about writing for the web (http://www.useit.com/alertbox/9703b.html - 1997 but still very helpful) is good advice for situations like this. Baiscally, reading from a screen is a lot harder for people than reading from a piece of paper, so it's important to keep your text short and to the point, and to divide it up using headings and bullet points.

The table on the "entire cast" page needs some headings - it took me awhile to figure out what the three columns mean.

I don't really like the idea of using the photos with text over them for navigation. It's hard to read the text, and, well... writing on peoples faces?? I don't know about that... Maybe it would be better to use a big cast photo to the left of your logo instead of the photos along the side.

Oh, they are working links - I thought the top ones were just blank until you get more content. Lose that crosshair cursor thing - without the hand people probably won't know that those are links.

I fixed the table on the entire cast page and I got rid of the text over the pictures.

I am working on the text right now. You're right, it is kind of long.

Well i think it can use some work. On the entire cast page, you might want to do some work on that table. Maybe make "character, actor, and description" more distinctive instead of the same size and same font as everything else on that page..Also on a site like this one i dont think there should be advertisments. Its makes the site look pretty bad. As far as the pictures and stuff, i personaly like it

    Thanks everyone for the posts.

OMG! Justin actually said something remotely nice. I'm shocked.

Bilbong, I'm working on the table right now. Go check it out.

On your episode page, sometimes it's:
    #24 - House Arrest
    Sunday, March 26

    But sometimes it;s:
    #18 - Big Girls Don't Cry
Furio leaves Italy to work for Tony

(with no date) Try to be consistent with the text and the spacing.

Sometimes it has the date and sometimes it doesn't becaue sometimes there's nothing to say about the episode, so I just put the date.

Please add width and height tags to all the images so that the text doesn't jump all over the place while the pages are loading.

Something weird with the episodes page - width of the page appears to be much much larger than other pages (Using IE5).

If you want to switch cursors on the pictures, the help (?) cursor might be a better choice than the crosshair - but maybe a 'gunsight' fits better with the topic
