Hi,

Have alook at my new site.

http://www.weddingdayspeechwriter.com

I think it looks nice enough. I'm still unsure of wither I should indicate that the pics are clickable or just take off the arrows and text.

Nice idea but the not very well implemented. You should work on designs.

From my take this site looks a little amateurish. Here is my review.

From a user's perspective:

Is the site attractive to you? Why/why not?
Not to much. First stop at the site made me feel as if someone has just thrown it up there. The colors are not to appealing to my eye and I didn't even notice that the logo was on the right because of the huge text on the left.

Is it easy to use? Can you find what you're looking for?
Yeah, its pretty easy to find everything but I might think of a better navigation system.

Do you understand what the site is about?
No problems here to report.

If this site is offering a product or service, would you sign up or buy it?
Because the site does not look to professional I would probably look around more.

If you were interested in this site's content, would you come back?
Same as last answer.

Is the content good? Do you understand what the text is saying? Do you notice any spelling/grammar mistakes?
Seems to be ok here.

From a designer/developer's perspective

colour scheme
Needs work. I would look into trying to make it look a little more appealing on the eyes.

common design principles (alignment, white space, visual organization etc.)
Look into getting the site looking a little more professional

common design mistakes
Same as last answer

usability
I would work on a better navigation system.

graphics quality
Needs more professional looking graphics

browser compatibility
Seem to look good in FireFox so I was happy! Smiling

resolution
I used 800X600 and it didn't look bad. There was no text overlapping or anything like that.

I hope this helps!

I like the hat on the logo. I also think that is a good idea for a business. As for the site, what they said above. It does not look too polished, but it was easy to read.

It works on my machine.

HI,

Thanks for such indepth reviews! I'm far from a professional website designer but I know enough about SEO techniques and design to make it work.

I'm going to update the site in the near future to include a CV and perhaps an example speech.

Thanks,
Andy

Sounds like a good plan. I wish you luck my friend!

1. The colors are tyring;
2. Perhaps the arrow followed by "click here" is redundant;
3. The clip-arts seem, to me, childish and amateur;
4. The title is repeated in the logo. I think that's wrong;
5. I do like the idea and the web site serves me well - if I want to have a business done, I find the information easily, although in a non-attractive way.

hi,

Quote: From my take this site looks a little amateurish.

yeah i agree. it is not a professional looking site. but i know you'll be better.

my comments:

Negative:

- The whole website itself is so plain/boring as far as design and looks

- The navigation menus are not that really attractive, maybe you should use some rollover effects and hover links instead of using just tables for it.

- The links are not that noticable..i suggest you apply some link hovers.

- You don't have a header/banner.

- You don't have some dynamic/interactive contents

- Place some animated gifs or flash content

Positive:

- well, i think there is always a way to improve..and i knnow you will.Gooluck!

pls. don't take my review as pure negative criticism..trust me, i only want the best for you. i don't want to say "it's nice" when it's not.

if you need my help..just P.M me..i'll be glad to help.

A good website for web design resources such as free templates, banners, graphic arts, and design tools for webmasters. http://gmarvz.50webs.com

As usual I'm agreeing mostly with previous comments. The site does look amateurish but with a little work could be much better. It's a great idea. I can write speeches but I'm sure lots of people couldn't write a speech to save their life, and I've heard some shockers!

There's way too much colour going onwith your site at the moment. If you make the right hand column with the descriptions all white that in itself will make a big difference. Perhaps separate them with hairline borders. The menu up the top the same - less colour, less padding around the text, and get away from Times New Roman. The hat on the name logo is good and good enough that it should be bigger and more prominent and on the left hand side, with the description on the right. It reads better that way - name>description>detail - left to right.

These are very easy fixes that will make a big difference.

I also agree that clip art is history, even though the they are quality drawings. Would it be better to have a a few small photos of people making speeches and having a laugh? And perhaps some of the audience having a laugh. Gives the impression that your speeches are good.

Your site will be much better with a few basic touch ups. You don't need anything fancy so it's easy enough.

Wedding speechwriting .......... is this the kind of service Oprah would love? Just a thought Sticking out tongue
