Web Tech Trends
Okay, I'm getting ready to launch my new site, and need a good round of critiques before I start advertising it.
It's a blog site, Web Tech Trends, which will complement my present site, Web Server Times.
Web Tech Trends will be a looser, more general (rambling?) series of comments on the Web industry and how it relates to new technology, Moore's Law, smart dust, security issues, spam, viruses, politics, the stock market, and whatever.
The Web Server Times will continue to present articles and white papers concerning the above subjects - along with related affiliate advertising. Both sites will have various cross-links to each other.
At this time, however, I need feedback on Web Tech Trends at: http://www.webtechtrends.com. So please check it out and let me know what you think.
Thanks as always,

I'm not a big fan of blogs but your main site really is well done. Nice & clean layout, really good. You should be very proud! I guess the only reason you havent got many responses is becuase you havent reviewed any other sites yet.
Try & review some others and watch the advice start pouring in

Roy,
1st let me say I like your site. I base that on two things.. design and content. I like both for what you deliver. Well done.
My other input to you would be your choice of Meta Tag Keywords. This is what you have...
"webservertimes.com, Web Server Times, The Web Server Times, newsletter, online newsletter, mailing list, webmaster newsletter, web newsletter, tips and tricks, news, free, technical news, web design news, design, security, servers, ebiz, e-biz, linux news, wireless news, Wi-FI, Always on, VPN"
Now all search engines work the same but our review team would strike words like..
always, on, wireless, technical, design, security, servers, linux, free, The, Times, online and,
There are a couple that I may have not mentioned, but you get the pciture. We are looking for a "high" relevance match between the word and the content. Words like "always" "the" "free" "on" are not good choices for relevant content of your site. We would be more likely approve "news" "newsletter" ""webservertimes.com"
Your choice of keywords is common with many of the sites that submit to us, and we make the changes on our end it we have the time, and like the site.. This is the case of yours we like the site and if it was submitted it would be accepted and placed in our top 5 positioning.
Best of Luck, and I will be visiting your site again for news.

Thanks for the quick replies.
Yes, I will be reviewing more sites here.
This is odd. I didn't put those words in there! I'm using Moveable Type software. I wonder if the software does that automatically?
In any case, I know what you mean, so I will be altering keywords soon.

The clear, simple design really works for me. I also like the way you can make those headers down the right-hand side stylish but not use images. A link to your other site in the blog might be nice - I didn't notice one - and please! delete the test posts! I cringed when I saw those (I think it just looks unproffessonial)

Know what you mean. I have to leave them there for another day or so.

Help! I just did a "View Source" and can't see those keywords. Where did you see them? This puzzles me, because I don't know how they got there

I like both the design and the content (but then, I love blogs.)
I've added you to my Blogging & Tech blogroll.

Roy.
I added your site to our search engine as an example.
Go to either 411Locate.com or city-yellowpages.com and do a keyword search for news..
You will notice we changed your "title" from.............
The Web Server Times: Articles for Webmasters about security, servers and emerging technology.
To....... The Web Server Times
The other reads more like a description than title, and we only used ..webservertimes.com, and news for your keywords.
I hope this examples also helps others realize that search engines can control the choice of selections from our end.. so when someone builds a site using different "tricks" of the trade it, at times, adds extra work load on the search engines.. , and in some cases the site is just rejected or scored at the bottom.
I hope this helps, Regards

I never knew that, but, yes, it does make sense.
Anyway, the mystery is solved. The person who designed that site included those keywords, and I never bothered to review them. If I'd known that "free" was one of the keywords, I'd have deleted it - which is what I'm going to do now.

Roy,
I hope it helps your scoring with the search engines.. I am truely not sure about the use of Google in your keywords..
"Google auction, google goes public"
Even though Google is in your news or you use adsense they may have a problem with you using their name in the keywords.. many Companies are senitive about use of their name anywhere in the Meta tags. I would read through their agreements..
Anyway I want to say I appreciate your comments about my sites.
Best Regards

Well, I've never done a blog so I'm not sure how hard they are to template.
I will say... Great info! Can you tell I love content?
I'm sure I'd be visiting both your sites no matter what they looked like. The Web Server Times is such a good design though, I have to admit I feel a little disapointed the Web Tech Trends doesn't have a similar layout.
Definately make sure you have good linking between the two.
...and have fun with it!
I'll be back to see what else you come up with.
gotta finish redesigning my sites so I can show them again.
The purpose of education is... to get more jokes!
