Hi Guys & Gals,

Basically we are geared towards online marketers looking for a unique way of advertising their site.

http://www.websitepromotionauction.com is a really cool idea I came up with a few months back but needed some time to put it all together.

I am looking for the following:

1) Do you understand the concept?
2) What do you think of the concept?
3) Layout?
4) Suggestions...

Any help would be appreciated,
Laughing out loud

Interesting idea. But you have to somehow drive traffic to the website. I don't think that anyone will bid a good price to be featured on the website unless there is traffic coming to the website.

If all your website offers is this service, then I don't understand how you would get people to visit your website.

it's a good idea, but it wont get much traffic without any real content.

Well that's the whole idea.

You are purchasing my traffic. Simply because I use iFRAME to show your site to my visitors I will not be able to use BAD traffic techniques like purchasing 10,000 for $30. This leaves real traffic that comes to the site.

For the Current price of $5.00 you get all my traffic, until someone else outbids you at $5.25

But you still stay at the home page as an anchor link..

The site is new, so there is NO PR, but the SEs will still capture your anchor text, and you will still be on the home page for min 30 days guaranteed because in order for the auction to restart the winner needs to hold the spot for 30 days...

Traffic will come, it is a matter of getting the word out..

I have been up for 1 day, and only going through forums has gotten me 20 visitors... Now imagine holding that spot for $5.00 yesterday and today would actually get you 40 visitors.. Smiling

What happens if I bid $5.00 and someone else bids $5.25 10 seconds later? Do I have to pay you $5 for 10-seconds worth of traffic?

Well then, you get all my traffic for those 10 seconds.. still have an anchor text on the home page for min 30 days guaranteed and still get traffic from the previous top spot winner section (home page) which you cannot see right now as this if the very first auction and we only have one winner so far..

The site if fairly new.. actually launched yesterday..

I would love to have an order every 10 seconds.. but I doubt it.. Smiling

This is a viable alternative to text link purchase and/or any other online advertising programs.. althrough there is more value for you..

This is the reason why there is a blog which will be a diary of everything I do in order to success or fail in this idea.

As well as a PRIVATE forum..

For $0 I can get a blogger/livejournal and probably 100 more free website/blog accounts and cover them with permanent one way links to my website. I could also go to godaddy and buy a domain for ~$6 and set up my own shadow domain for a year or that I can go to adbrite and buy a 30-day front page ad on thousands of websites for a similiar price.

Not trying to break your spirit, but I really think you have to give people something special in order to achieve what your trying.

Perfect, let's talk..

Livejournal & 100 links?? How many visitors will you get from that??
Godaddy and buy a shadowed domain for $6.00 .. your point being???
would the SEs not consider this blackhat??

go to adbrite and get a 30 day front page ad on thousands of website for what price??
$250.00 per month to get the same visitors that I would get you for $5.00???

Buddy you are on crack.. show me how, I would be more the happy to do it..
frankly.. show me how and I will be more then happy to give you home page visitors for one year??

What in the hell are you talking about??

Well, the price of the top spot will increase by $0.25 everytime there is a purchase. The auction restarts when the win holds this spot for 30 days..

and while this is the only service we provide, we have started a private forum to talk about other successful site promotion ideas.. as well as a blog to show day to day activities of our successes and failures.. Smiling

Your heading isn't showing up, because you have:
Top Website Promotion Auction

Your pages are half HTML, half XHTML, you should keep to one or the other and change DOC tag to suit.

I don't think black is the ideal colour for this, white, off white or even light grey would look a lot more professional. I think the hardest part will be in keeping your layout seperate from who ever is in the iframe.

As for the concept
First thing that springs to mind is website cloaking - against many SE terms and conditions which could get you banned.
What if I won, you wouldn't be able to put the site in my profile on your site, well you could but it wouldn't stay there, it uses the code to pop out of frames so unless you copy my content (which could change at any time) you wouldn't be unable to fillfull your obligations. You could have a lawsuit on your hands, might want to amend your TOS

I am using iFRAME that shows the winner site within that iFRAME, I am not sure how this constitutes website cloaking?? The SE's would not read it like that, they would read it as IFRAME... prweb.com does it why can't I??

As far as your site is concerned?? I am not sure how your site will not show??
All I am doing is calling your URL through my home page....

But if you can describe further how I could get into trouble or sued? I would appreciate it??

Hey Busy,

Just wanted to let you know that after doing some extensive research,
SEs read iFRAME as part of the iFRAME URL..

In other words, I will not be penalized nor will my customer..

I think the idea is definatly unique, but i can't see people paying $5 for 30 seconds of traffic.

I think you should think about the approach a little more and fine tune the concept.
For example, your auction could start every day at 9am and run until 10am. then the highest bidder will win and have their site listed until the following day, when it starts all over again.

I'm just looking out for your best interest, you can choose to ignore what I say if you wish.

By cloaking, if a SE goes to website a the will see x content, then if they go to your site they will see the same content but within a different URL even though you are calling website a in a iframe. se what I mean?

as for my site, when you get a quite patch (if you do), make a page and add
<script type="text/javascript"
if (window != top) {
top.location.href=window.location.href;
}

Sorry Busy,

I am confused for some reason. What you are telling me is that SEs look at both iFRAME and FRAME as the same thing?? Is that right??
Would this put both me and my customer at risk of being penalized??

Let me know??

frames are bad news for search engines full stop. Even IFRAMEs. The search engines have a hard time reading their contents, and half the time they don't even bother.

i think its a realy good idea though i dont like the design much, looks pretty drab.
it needs brightening up and definately some content added. Its something good to start with though and you could really develop it, good domain name too.
good luck with it

It could possibly work if you can drive enough traffic to it..

Heres a reallly simple idea that someone over at DP came up with

http://www.50pageswebsite.com/

First page all links/ads are $50 permanent. second page 49 and so on...now the pages are /1.html...2.html, so PR should pass along nicely. Would page 50 be worth it at $1? Obviously your hoping as a buyer the site is gonna go PR6 one day and you can get some PR...I cant imagine traffic happening on a site like that though.

Still someone has made $600 on that site so far...

Simple, but effective.
