Please critique my website.
It is called TechSeek and is found at
http://techseek.hypermart.net

It is meant for computer and internet related sites.
I know the main design kind of stinks, and I am planning on redoing it when I get the time, but what should I change about it?
Thanks

Pretty good.

1) Alot of ads on the site. I know you have to have these to make some money, but really think out what will make you the most money.

2) The search pages don't have the same layout as your main site.

3) Might want to include bullets for each category.

4) The logo doesn't look very clear.

5) Announcements part on the bottom of the page doesn't look right.

6) Is the site really designed by InfoStar Design? Cause it's not in their porfolio.

The ads are a problem, and they really don't gain me much money. I plan on getting rid of them when I redesign the site.

Most of the search pages were edited to have the same layout. Which ones do you mean?

I agree that the logo does look VERY crappy, unless you use a resolution of 1024x768.

The site was designed by a friend who does web designs. I usually do my own, but he offered to do it and I didn't have a whole lot of time on my hands. I plan on redoing the site as soon as I have time.

Not too bad... Nothing really special though. What software are you using to create your database by the way?

I am not really a programmer. The script does everything I need and it works really well for me.

Thats what alot of smaller search engines use. Why don't you program your own?

I have updated the main layout of the site and also added a forum to it.

Does the new layout look better and appear less confusing?

I plan on updating all of the other pages to include the link to the forum sometime.

I had the logo on the main page but changed it to text. I thought that it might help the search engine positioning(although not much.. I guess I should have just put an alt with it Smiling and also to help with load time.
If I do put the logo back, I will get a new one. I am not the greatest at graphics, so if anyone has some free time and would be willing to make me one for the site, I would be VERY appreciative.

I'll make one! Just tell me the width/height it has to be and what the background color should be. ~Tim

It basically has to fit in the place where I have the title for TechSeek now, http://techseek.hypermart.net/

You can also see the background color there, it is kind of navyish. I would prefer a transparent logo if possible.

The dimensions of the old logo were 200x60.

I really appreciate this Smiling

Pretty neat! The main page layout is OK, and so is the banner. I would say you need to put a link to the forum on every page, not just the first so more people will use it. Also maybe put the TechSeek logo on the front page as well as all other pages. ~Tim

Hi there Jeremy,
I missed the first version so I'm jumping in now, I really like the basic idea you have going. looks like a great resource site in the making.
I think I'd move your top search/menu area down below the hypermart banner, you don't really benifit from that banner and it's getting most of the "first glance" attention, Plus I just think it would look better there Smiling
I think if I were you I'd find a couple of HOT items/links and have them right there on the front page. OR, at least give a little description of what the site is about, it's pretty self explanitory but it would appear more complete that way.

take care,
