Hi guys. I'm currently working on a layout for my SCUBA Diving club, and before I run onwards with it I thought I'd ask for your guys opinions.
This is basically my final idea for the layout. I need to fix the Logo a bit to get it to match the BG colour fully but other than that I think I am ready to go.
The question is do you guys think I'm ready?
As always thanks for your input.

I feel the blue for the menus is a bit too light. It's kinda difficult to make out the words. You don't want your visitors having to work to get around your site.
Also, what's going to be in the left-hand column?
One last thing. Why do you have the main menu twice? Once at the top and once to the right.

White on Blue Menu... Ok... I'll maybe make the text bigger? or bold? to me its readable but i'll see what i can do.
Left hand column. My intial thoughts is nothing but i'm thinking on it. I tried the design as a 2 column and it just didn't work for me. I added the left and it looks good (IMHO) as to what to put in there I like the nothingness.
Again, on the double nav menu, just to be different.
I'll think on it and play with maybe mixing things up a bit
Does anyone else hae any comments?

Everything from the navbar down looks good. The empty left side takes some getting used to but I think I like it. Nice, CSS layout too! Congratulations on that
The header area could use some work, I think. You already mentioned the logo problem. I don't like the practice of putting the page title up in the header area. It's cut off from the content. Put it back down under the navbar. You could try putting some sort of faded out under water image there instead. Maybe.. I'm not sure. Oh, I also don't like it when people feel the need to label their navigation menus as "navigation". That should be pretty obvious, although the headers look nice there.
I also like the way you've put that dark margin around the main layout area. What if you made that a little bigger? Just wondering - it might have more impact that way.
Nice colour scheme, too BTW.

Thanx Megan,
Now depending on how big your screen resolution is will depend on the size of the border... (well in nonIE browsers it will). IE doesn't listen to the max-width command so the border will always be that size. unless i change it which i'll play with
I'll have a look at moving the "page title" back down into main area and see what happens.
I plan on playing with the logo early next week, I'll try and bring it across some more with some water.
Are people noticing huge differences between the main browsers? The only one I've noticed is when using this bit of code
<acronym title="British Sub-Aqua Club"><a href="http://www.bsac.com/">BSAC</a></acronym>
' The link CSS sortof gets missed in IE and Opera. odd i know.Well thanx for the comments and keep em coming

Hi there,
I like the fact you have used black text on white for clarity, I'm a big believer that site text should follow this format, my only points are the navigation, it seems a little unclear and is repeated and the top logo, the text is a little difficult to read.
Hope this helps.

Thanks Mark, The logo was originally done with a white background in mind. I am in the process of finding time to fix it
The Navigation, Splinter also mentioned that it was hard to read. Personally i'm having no problems with it. Would it be possible to get screen shots from you both so i can see how it looks on your computers.
Thanx and as always keep them coming.

The screenshot probably won't make a difference as it may be to do with the different brightnesses of the monitor, the natural light, what computer you use (Macs are known for having brighter monitors) etc. etc. Lots of things come into account.
The colours aren't too bad for me but you've got to remember not all people have good eyesight.
Just make the blue a little bit darker and it should be OK.

ew, fix the header. what's w/ the distortion and the white space. nothing a little ps can't fix. also I agree that the white text on the ligth blue background is a little tough to read, especially for people who's eyes aren't perfect. I also thing the color you chose for the header is ugly, heh. ALSO for webpages like that I like to add topmargin="0" to the body tag. I think it looks better, but that's merely a personal preference. Over all it's pretty good to me. :chef:

On the horizontal nav bar, you use a burgandy mouse over, on the vertical you use blue. A consistent color would be more uniform.

noted...
I may drop the second "Main" Nav. I'm yet to decide.
Expect me to play with at some point this week

Hey guys in the process of finalising coding today... Currently getting problemswith the logo because I'm using png cos i found that gif had really jagged edges. png works fine in ff but the background colours don't match up in IE. even though its the same colour code (#e2c56f)...
While i keep working does anyone have an opinion or advice ?

OK, DJ asked me to comment and try and be unbiased so here goes...
Having the main navigation doubled seems like overkill to me. I prefer the nav on the right look-wise with the subnav underneath it so I would maybe take out the nav at the top but leave the coloured dividing bar in.
I quite like the different coloured roll-overs on the right hand navs as most people would automatically set them the same - I like things slightly original.
I think the blank left column is tres cool!
On the bottom where the W3C certificates and copyright notices etc are....I think it would look better if their horizontal centre-lines were on the same plane (assuming you left them all on the same line). I would also maybe shrink down [the words] as they look rather comic(y) to me which while is a great look for the site, I feel that these parts should look professional.
Anyway, that's a long comment and entirely my own ideas so you should attach what weight to them you see fit.
Kat.

it seems a tad bit plain to me... but it still looks good. the colors seem to be decent... on a sale of 1 to 10, i give it a 7.75.

Cheers g-n... Too plain? I'm one of these people who like professional looking websites. (i hope that comes across) In time it will have photos mixed in with text but as yet I think thats it.

Visited the site, and was very impressed with most of it. The colors are very nice, the design works well in many ways, and I found the logo to be terrific.
Looks like things are still well in the development phase, however, which means there aren't too many of the details in position, and in many regards, it is how those details are put into effect that will decide how well things work.
For me, the way the left column is set up demands something in it, if nothing else, then just to balance out the right side. To each their own, but it makes things feel very incomplete to me.
Looks like, upon completion, this is going to be a VERY nice looking site!

Hi Batchman... Thank you for the compliments... Yeah its still very much a work in progress... I plan on finishing it up (full content) within the next couple of weeks.
I'll post here again and we'll see if it lives up to your expectations.
