I'm working on a site that will launch at www.thevotes.com

You can preview the site right now at http://www.xmission.com/~jsnow/cgi-bin/polls/

Feel free to create and manage a poll if you want to test it out, and be sure to tell me what you think!! NOTE: All polls will be deleted when we officially launch, so don't use them on your site.

1) Where is the logo? I would create one and place it to the left of the top banner ad. That would be a good place.

2) The curvey images at the edges of the table are a little jagged. I would fix this problem.

Overall though, the colors, design, layout, and navigation are very simple and easy. Just need a logo.

Over all it looks good. The banners are a little much, even if they are just placeholders. It’s hard to focus on the layout with them.

I agree about the logo. You also need some graphics (photos would be the best). Something to portray what the site does. It’s got a good layout and color scheme. Just needs some liveliness.

Thanks for the input! I'll see if I can slip some graphics in there somewhere.

Are the corners really that rough? I guess I can't tell because I'm using 1600x1200 resolution.

LOL!

Is there a color called "Pee Pee"?

Pretty good! I definitely agree that you need some sort of site title or logo.

I decided to create a poll (just 'casue I'm procrastinating).

On your style options box, you should really make those choices drop-down boxes, and make the colour choice in words rather than hex. You will probably get some very amateur "webmasters" who will be inserting this into their Front Page generated pages. They're not going to know what hex is, and may have a tendency to pick a font that nobody else will have.

I'm filling out the forms - it's weird how after I type in my poll title, (using the tab key to move from field to field) I jump to the style options. It should just keep going down the list and go to the style options after. Will I be able to change the background colour of the poll? I wouldn't want to put something like this on my site if I couldn't set it to match my colour scheme.

Overall, the design is nice and simple. For a site like this where you're offering a service, that's what you need.

About the style options-

I don't want to limit experienced webmasters, so I think I'll try to allow HTML to be inserted into the question/choice fields, since the code is insterted into your page without you being able to edit it at all.

I'll get more customizition options such as background color in for the final release.

Looks great but maybe instead of having a long description of why people should use your poll service you could just have the key facts pointed out:
- free
- easy to use
- fast.......
or make some keywords bold in your description.

It looks very good. It would get me to use it. You need a logo though.

I swear you guys keep making better and better sites and I just don't know what to say.

Okay, I made a new design at http://www.xmission.com/~jsnow/cgi-bin/polls/home2.html

I didn't spend much time on it and I didn't incorporate it into the working demo of the site, so, it could probably use some tweaking. Tell me what you think!

Travis, I didn't change the text yet, but I'll probably change it to match your suggestion. Thanks!

Oh my gosh. There is absolutely no question that the first one is better. I honestly don't know what you were thinking with this one, to be honest (no offense). There is too much plain white, no interesting design elements, no sense of a thought out colour scheme... I could go on here but you get the point.

At least your old design has a colour scheme that matches, a professional looking design, and some sense of good layout.

Don't even think about replacing the old design with this!

BTW, the big image at the top is missing)

That bad, eh? Hehe... Yeah, I can't get the logo to load. Actually, some good DID come out of it- getting the poll to fit into that small space made me add more things that people could customize their polls with. (Form width and poll width)

Yea, the first one is way better.
Looks like you will have a great service though.

Yes, first one is much better. You just need to add a logo to it...

Okies... I made a logo for the first one. I think I'll move "TheVotes.com" away from the checkbox a little. What do you guys think??

Okay, that looks alright. You're introducing two new colours now, that aren't working well with the existing colour scheme. I would change that purple colour to blue - either match the background or go with something darker.

I also think that it should be above the navigation menu, but I think that might mess up the nice layout you have - hmmmm....
