site review (download time?)

Hi,

Could someone take a look at my website?
Credit: The Journal for Market Funded Financial Services Providers

I would mainly like to know how fast the navigation script I'm running downloads (we have a T-1 connection here so it's hard for me to tell how fast it would be on a regular modem). I'm using the Top Navigational Bar II script from Dynamic Drive which works well with my content, but I hope it doesn't slow it down too much. If any of you are using a regular modem, please give me an idea how long it takes any given page to download.

I would also be interested in any feedback about the look of the site itself. It's pretty conservative (essential for the company I work for). Is it easy to follow?

Phyllis

P. S. I don't have control over the text in the articles (someone else writes them) -- only in the presentation.

P. P. S. I did not intend for this newsletter to be in frames. Our company president asked (insisted) that I put the top two logos in an individual frame. I personally think it detracts from the page, but maybe you guys have different ideas about that (?).

Something wacky is going on with that menu system - here's a screenshot:

Weird! What version of IE is that? I've checked this on a bunch of stuff and never seen anything like that!

Do you get the same problem on Netscape? If you follow the "Nav II" script link above, does their example look weird on your computer?

Weird! It's doing the same thing in Netscape as well, but the Dynamic Drive site looks fine!. It must be a problem with this computer or something - this isn't the only thing that has rendered strangely.

P.S If I remember I'll try this at home on my dial up and let you know about the download speed.

Strange. I think the JavaScript code specifies the font size, and that font size is rendering larger on your computer causing it to wrap. Hm. I don't really know what I can do about that so I'll try to get a consensus and see who has the same problem! I might try putting in tags around the text, but that might make it really strange. I don't know!

Does anyone else get the same distortion?

Thanks for your help! (Let me know if you get the same results at home.)

Phyllis

Okay, I just set up this test page using tags around the info for each of the menu items. It looks the same to me. Megan, does it look any different when you look at it? I left off the top frame in this test page.

Total download is in the order of 19000 bytes (according to NT's networking control monitor), so that's no problem ... trouble is I never clear my cache so some of your content might have been there since I looked some time ago.

And I didn't notice any screen weirdness.

At home now...

It looks fine here. It did take a little while for the menu to come up, but then I've just got really slow connection here (something I desperately need to do something about!)

I'll check that nobreak page at work tomorrow.
