Site redesign
Hi all,
Would you look at my new template at http://www.shoutingrock.org/troop214/new/ and give me some input. I still need to select a better font and do some rollover for the navigation.
The old site for comparison is at http://www.shoutingrock.org/troop214/
Thanks in advance.

At 1024 your background is repeating and the text is lying on top of that blue vertical bar. What you need to do is make your background at least 1200 pixels wide, so it won't repeat on higher resolutions.
I like the way you've put the logo graphic so it overlaps the two blue bars. That's a nice idea.
Otherwise I find the layout a little boring. I'm sure you're planning on doing something a little more interesting with the navbar though, so that should probably help.

Hi Megan Jack,
Thanks for the review. Starting to get a little frustrated. I can't seem to get any input from the boards I go to.
I now have two different nav bars. Which one do you like better?

I like the first one and also the colour combination, it's simple, clean and suitable for a business site. I bookmarked your site just in case I need to have some layout and colour ideas whenever I come across good designs.
Another great desigh layout and colour is

Very suitable for any business web site layout and you only need to do some changes to suit your site you are designing.

#1 is better. A couple of things - 'arial' is the font name, not 'ariel'. And the menu images would be better if they were made with the light blue background rather than transparent on white.

Good Choice of Colors.
I think the top part is a little big, and the text that changes at the top, i think the font size is too big also.
The mouseovers are good, and they work well with your site.
I like them.
Add some more text to the front page, maybe another paragraph, and it will look filler, if not text, just something to make the white go away.

I like the new look a lot better. The title of your site (the troop name) should be a graphic - not just typed in text. I will make it look a lot better.
Let us take a look at it when you get some more information there!

Hi all,
Thanks for your input. I have made several changes, started adding content, made the title bar smaller, added rollovers. The pages are now at http://www.shoutingrock.org/new/index.shtml so that when I am done I can just rename the new directory to bring it online.
Are you pleased with the changes? Is the site up to the standard of excellence that is common on this board? What is the site crying out for?
Thanks again.

Very nice.
The 'logo' on the right would be pretty slow to d/l on a 28.8 modem. A reduced file size version (around 19k) is at
http://www.halfadot.com/temp/counts.jpg - help yourself if you want it.
Couple of minor suggestions:
#1 adding image width and height to all images would stop the 'jumping about' when the page is loaded.
#2 might be worth making the scrolling header message script an external script rather than built in to each page. Not only would d/l time be reduced (a fraction), but changing the messages later would then be a matter of editing only one file.

The new navbar is almost there. I feel like it should be a litle bit bigger, because it's hard to read the small text underneath it, especially with the textured background behind it (which is a really nice addition BTW). I don't like how the mouseovers work either - I think that all of the graphics should change to that yellow colour onmouseover and then stay yellow when you're on that page (and take the link out then too)
the content area looks really stretched out at 1024 - I'm not sure if there's anything you can do about that though. It looks great at 800 x 600.
The layout of the "honor camping" page needs work - those graphics seem to be too scattered, and the drop down box needs some more space below it. The "order of the arrow" graphic has a background that's not quite white (for me, anyway) and that looks tacky.
Links page - lose the image map with the screenshots. Wouldn't that be a pain if you want to add more links? I hate doing screenshots myself. At lest add a little more space above it.
Good job though - looks much better!

If your curoius, your site works well in larger resolutions : ).
Still say, add more text to the front page, and make it smaller, as it will make it look more.. sleek.
