Sifox preview - a design site
I have just finished a rough layout for my latest site, Sifox.com which will be my personal site offering my services to small to medium sized businesses (I am a freelance designer and developer).
The url is http://trickynet.co.uk/sifox
At the moment all that is up is a gif of the layout so please don't comment on loading times. What I would like to know is your opinions on the colour scheme, layout, graphics.
Also, put yourself in the place of the prospective customer, if you had to hire a freelance designer to design your site would you choose me based on my site (foget about skills such as coding skills for the moment, just concentrate on the visual aspects of the site as it is just a gif right now). In other words are your first impressions good?
The final version of the site will be located at sifox.com. I want some feed back on the design because good design is probably the single most important aspect of a designer's site.
Thanks to those who take the time to critique my design.

Well, the design is nice and clean. But the layout of the left-side curve navigation is getting to be a bit overused on the net. I've seen it done many, many times, and if I were a client, I'd want to see something that I've rarely seen.
I really have trouble judging sites with just a gif to go on. But that's my main thing with it.

Thanks for the reply Goth Girl.
I may not agree 100% with you but I will take all comments into consideration in due course. I am sorry there is only a gif to go on but I haven't had time to cut the image up into tables yet. Also I don't want to spend time doing that until I know I have a good design and layout.
Cheers.

Thanks Justin and Megan.
Justin - I will be adding copyright info, of course. I will also be moving the slogans position. About the circles - yea that one does look a little out of place, I'll tweak it soon. Also thanks for referring me to that site. I'll be helpful I'm sure, especially that radio bit.
Megan - Saying that the design is unique has made my day as that's what I want - a unique design. And yes I know that slogan is bad, I just put any old sentence up there to use the space until I think of a better one.
I will test out a slightly different shade of blue for the background, but I think I may stay with the one I have right now.
Thanks again.

The design is good. Just add a few mouseovers and you're ready to go.

Gem,
Needs some more color. Three shades of blue is very 'blue'. Mix it up a little.
Move the "We have the Design for your Business" to right align with the text below. I think that will help with the readability and layout.
Let me know when you get the full site up and running, I'll be glad to give a more in depth review.

Thanks for the comments guys.
Jackchen - Yes mouseovers are coming I just wanted to know if the layout was any good first.
Johnnyboy - I'm not sure if I am going to add another colour. I quite like the shades of blue scheme. Blue makes a site memorable and it relaxes people (researched fact).
However I will see how moving the "we have the design..." to the right will look. I am not sure if I will have any text there at all in the finished version or if I do I might change the slogan.
Thanks again.
I will let everyone know when the finished version is done.

Nice! I've actually never seen that type of navigation used. Here's what I would do though...
1) Add a bar along the bottom of the site for copyright info. I think this will make the design look more complete.
2) I would move your slogan to the very right and align it up with the 'Customer Login' buttons and such.
3) See those circles around the logo? It looks like the 6th (counting from left to right, and top to bottom) is out of place compared to the others.
If I were a client (very doubtful, I own my own design site ) I'd certainly consider you. Also, check out www.designsbymark.com/dbmradio because there is a archived show about starting as a freelancer.

Looks nice! Blue tends to be overused on the Web, but your unique design makes up for that. I'm not sure that the background colour and the lighter blue are coordinating as well as they should though. Maybe one of them could be tweaked just a little bit.
This just doesn't sound quite right for some reason.
I think the login and recommend buttons should be move down just a little bit - they kind of look lost in space over there.
