Should I categorize my TOP100 list?

Hello everybody,

Few months ago I finished web shops ranked list.
http://www.top100webshops.com
Now it works fine and has a good number of active members (>90).
What do you think -
Is it a good time to divide them into separate groups like jewelry, dvd ... (about 20)

Will it be more comfortable for visitors?

This site somewhat confused me - is it a directory, search engine or what? The first page should explain exactly what it is and how to use it. I expected it to be a directory so I did a search for something and it pulled up google in a new window! What do members get? How do members join? It says top 100 sites but you have 120 and they are all mixed.

IMO you need to change track slightly as there is no structure to it, I propably would just close the site down and follow some of the links from Google as it is now as I wouldn't want to trawl through 120 sites you have listed in no order other than the number of clicks they have received, which doesn't indicate they are 'top' or 'good' IMO. Categorise them into more of a directory, make it searchable and then sort them within each category however you want.

Did you want a critique of the layout/design as well?

The site isn't working at all now! Do you actually want a critique of the design etc?

The URL is http://www.top100webshops.com/ (you're missing the "s" in "shops") Wink.

I'll have a closer look later. It's kinda late (3AM).

Functionality is much better now but it might be better to display a message saying so if there aren't any sites that match for a search query so the visitor knows this, otherwise the page just looks like they haven't loaded yet.

On the design side, there is a horizontal scrollbar at 800*600 and at larger resolutions, where it all stretches across the page, it looks a bit too stretched IMO. The site layout is fine but maybe just a tad bland with the logo being a very boring font. I'm also not sure of the colours, too many shades of green which don't go together and blue.

Now can you please help out others and review their sites posted in this forum as per the forum rules. Thanks Smiling

Just some notes here.

The "Select Category" column seems very "white" compared to the rest of the top part of the page. Perhaps a slightly "darker white" or light grey (other than the background color) would work to dilute the brightness a bit???

Plus, on the column at the left (the 1-25, 26-50, etc., column), it might promote readability to separate each item with alternating colors. Scrolling down while seeing only black & white can be somewhat discouraging to the eyes.

For example, you could pick just 2 colors, maybe the light green and a slghtly darker green or blue/violet color, then lay it out as follows:

(HEADING GOES HERE)

1 -------FIRST BG COLOR

2 -------SECOND BGCOLOR

3 -------FIRST BGCOLOR

4 -------SECOND BGCOLOR

And so on. Of course, the colors above are only examples and you would be choosing the colors that go best with your site. Smiling

I think the logo looks pretty good and blends well with the site, but it might need a slightly larger font size (not sure about that, though).

Hope this helps some. Smiling
