got a little carried away with the wwww's there didn't you. hehehehe
One thing I notice right off are the small tables in the left column. They are bunched together. I am using these on a site I am working on right now and had the same problem. You get a 2 pixel line where the tables meet and it throws off the consistency of the pattern. Hope that made sense.
Your news section may look better if it was smaller. It is twice as big as it needs to be. You could move it to the left or right and place the cool dude with silver hair beside it. As it is right now, if you just look at the top half of the page (above the fold) there really isn't anything there to tell you what the site is about. Other than the logo.
I am sure you will hear from the other about the "best viewed with" stuff at the bottom of the page.
I would have put the "About Us" and "Contact" at the top with the rest of the links. But that is a personal preference.
Not bad but it needs more content. I assume that it isn't totally finished yet.
first up it takes ages to load, the top 2 banners loaded pretty fast but the rest was slow, i'm running 56k.
I dont know where to start,
i have a scroll bar at 800x600 (i wont mention the best viewed with part)
the black text/links dont show up on the dark blue,
the icons have a faded pink box around them that looks weird.
a scrolling message and a animated banner, do you supply seasick pills? plus the text on the scrolling message is to small anyways.
the link boxs at the left should be at the top, not in the middle and maybe bold text or underlined as they look like text and not links, makes it looked unfinished.
the staus bar message, people like to see if the links are on your site or off the site, i counted the word "shell" on your index page about 14 times, not counting the scrolling messages or status bar, i think the status message is an overkill on the name.
"shellchoice.com, your shell and webhosting resources" sounds like you have resources for shell, the only shell I know is the oil company. ok i read the "what is a shell" afterwards, maybe include the word account into the shell part, i guess its a irc know thing.
my opinion on the about me and contact is it could be better off at the bottom left for a more balanced look but thats my opinion
shouldnt the "vote" link say "poll"?
ok now i am confused, i went to the "articles" page and it looks like another site, even thou its not, are you just trying out ideas or having different layouts. I actually like the articls page layout better, not to sure about the orange thou
i didnt want to click any other links as i wasnt sure where they went.
maybe add a link to the index, as its your main page, i had to use the back button as I couldnt find a link to it
I finally upgraded IE to 5.5 a few weeks ago. One of the first things I noticed:
"Oh cool, you can control the appearance of the scroll bar!"
Two weeks later, the effect is getting on my nerves. Could just be another one for my growing list of pet peeves.
Generally, I like the colours and layout.
I dislike the scrolling and animated stuff.
Black text on blue? unadvisable.
Your "About Us" and "Contact" tabs kind of get lost there at the bottom. At the same time, the tabs at the top give the appearance of having 2 tabs missing. Why not consolidate them?
Link your logo back to the home page? I could not see any way to get back to it otherwise.
Get the site working properly in Netscape! As much as I would like to not have to code for cross-browser compatibility, it is part of the job.
Overall this looks quite good. There are a couple of little problems that need to be fixed.
First of all, the news part isn't working at all in NS 6.1. That, along with the picutre of the guy there, are taking up too much space above the fold. You should try to get the content headers closer to the top of the page.
The two columns on either side of the content area you need to be aligned properly. What I mean is that the things on the left side don't line up with the things on the right. It gives the whole page sort of an unbalanced and scattered look.
About Us section - your spelling and grammar are, to be blunt, horrendous. Get someone to rewrite this for you.
That is terrible. Having a site about 'Nix shells that is best viewed in IE, a browser that is not even available under Linux.
Overall the site design was okay. Some of the stuff done to be trendy did not really work in my opinion.
Colors - overall the colors were good. They did not really stand out as spectacular but they were not annoying which is always good.
Text - I thought that the text is a bit small and hard to read in some areas like the black text on the dark grey background.
Logo - is that a shell in your logo. I think that it could be done better. If you are about the shell, you logo should be also.
Menu - your menu looks a little funky to me. Black text, white text and a border.
Top 5 shells - these links take some totally off of your site, not a good thing. They should open in a window.
Shell problems - you should know too the problems with running a 'shell' site. It would be a crackers paradise. I also didn't see any Acceptable Use policy to discourage this either.
Anyway, personal opinion is that some things need rethinking. In addition you should have an AU policy to protect yourself.

thanks you guys...
many sites told me about the BLACK doesn't match with the dark blue..
so i guess i will have to take that out
