Same Name, New Site
Hey everyone,
just wanted to say thanks to everyone who posted on my last website, but the original concept was scrapped and redone. i changed from tables to dynamic CSS, updates huge amounts of content and layout changes and what ever else i cant really think of off hand.
thanks for the comments, some of them were really funny also!
Here is the link once more, i could use some more critiques.
Thanks alot

Well you certainly achieved a radical look for people who have high-speed lines. The site is hard to review without knowing more of your intent. For example having to text butt up to your thumbnail images is very unconventional makes the text slightly harder to read however it does create a radical look. Those thumbnails are not at all optimized you are now displaying them at 100 x 100 pixels however sometimes their actual size is far greater than that which makes for unnecessarily long download times. Also the main background image is over 280 kB in size. That's quite large for a background image. One can only assume download time is not an issue for your target audience. More than this I cannot say without knowing more of your intent.

Pros:
I like how everything is extremly organize and im not inundated with information and pictures and all, i hate that when i visit a website. i have a lagging cable connection but the page loaded rapidly for me. I cleared my cache and cookies and all closed firefox and went back to your website fasterfox reported that it took 1.906 seconds to load. thats good! when i revisit the website fasterfox reports it only takes 0.218 seconds to load. so thats great. also all CSS, is very good! i like how you categorized you different menu items on the left too.
Cons:
It doesn't like my screen resolution (1280x800). The background repeats again which is kind of annoying, but its a small issue and i only noticed it apon revisiting your website. the other small thing i noticed was the copyright statement at the bottom seems like its right justified, i would prefer it centered. the last thing i noticed was that the text around the images is really close, maybe add a 1 or 2 pixel spacing around it to seperate the text from the images some.
thats all just my opinion though if i was designing the site! hope you take it with a grain of salt.

A bit unorganized but very radical. I would say the site has a surreal edge about it. But then again I like to stick to simplicity. A cool site, welldone with the graphics, very pro.

Thanks everyone for your great comments. I know i have been slacking on the pictures optimization, and a few smaller elements, like that dang background. I will be further optimizing the site to make load times even faster than they already are.
I used a PNG img for the background because i wanted it to remain high quality as it got bigger or smalller. then i realized there is no way for me to make the background img size 100% stretched in CSS, at least not that i could find. The images are large, but they were optimized for loading, i just never thought to actually just shrink the images in photoshop, until now.
Mandy, you commented that it was a bit unorganized, could you be alittl emore specific in what exactly seemed out of place?
and does anyone know how to make firefox have padding around the images? in IE6 it works perfectly the Vspace and Hspace commands. but firefox never seems to want to agree with it.
Thanks again guys, i look forward to reveiwing more site on here myself, maybe even yours!

I like it!

style="padding:3px;" for padding images - in keeping with the CSS
The site is very slow in loading on dialup and the space isn't used well. At 800x600 the pages are long and skinny but as it's a personalised blog style site you can do as you please.

I just visited your site again and got some very unsavory popups. Your site took ages to load because of these. I should drop the popups as visitors find these very unwelcome, especially of that sort of content. Keep it clean and you will attract a more wider variety of visitors.
As for the disorganisation, the surrounding graphics are too messy, it would be good to cut some out and have one or two. Otherwise your site is ok.

Okay,
so the universal problem seems to be that my pages loads slow. i have tested it a few times on several different machines in my office and yes, some it does take like 2 seconds. I am slightly discombobulated, as to how to make it faster. i shrunk all the images, and cleaned up the spare peices of code alot. any suggestions on this would be helpful
Mandy,
by unsavory did you mean anything of an adult nature? there are supposed to be no Adult ads besides the one from AFF, which will be removed soon enough, or did you mean unsavory as in pop ups suck alot. i really didnt want to use a pop up ad, but they do help pay the bills, even if the bills are small. By surrounding graphics did you mean the Background image with the silohuettes, as those are the only ones i can think of. do you think it would be appropriate to put them all on the left side?
Busy, thanks for the clue with the CSS, i will be testing it later today.

The absolute easiest way to optimize it better would be to download a demo of a program which optimizes much better than Photoshop. Here's a link of a brand that works good for me. This is beyond my level of expertise but I am thinking perhaps you can replace your background image with a sliced image. This would mean using a table. And somehow getting it into the background perhaps using Z-indexing. I mean using relative positioning. Or perhaps your background must be in a parent div which is the parent of all parent divs to use a sliced table as your background like I said this is beyond my level of expertise. A course using a sliced image to replace your background image would not optimize it over using the program I mentioned unless you saved all the slices at very high quality and then optimize each slice with a good optimization program like the link I gave you.

Its looks...well...different.
I would maybe link the names around the top to bio's of the people.
Also for parental reasons i would remove adult friend finder at the bottom.

well said Joke - the adult stuff is very off putting and will offend and send away visitors. Keep it clean and for all viewers and visitors. you will get more visits.

This design is realy effective with the greens, oranges and reds ect on the black background. I like the navigation and the main body of the website. What i dont like is the sponsors at the bottom maybe put them under the navigation menus

to joke and mandy,
i have been thinking of removing the adult friend finder adds for a while now. i would like to refrain from adult rated content, even though many of the topics of this mass blog are fairly, shall we say offensive and adult oriented in nature. it will be removed soon, I promise!
and to slick,
i do like the idea of my sponsers being in another DIV of their own on the left side of the page, its just at times, the adds under the rest of the content helped make the page less distracting than having adds all over the place. i dont know, i will be doing yet another layout soon, one that wont be open to the public, but only to the members of these forums who have helped me greatly so far.
thanks alot for everything once again, i will be taking it all into consideration!
