okay, i'm guessing that this is your first attempt at making a website ... right? Please say yes. I'm also going to suppose that you used an HTML editor that was provided by the space provider. right?
With all that in mind ... here we go:
1) get your hands on a copy (legal of course ) of Macromedia Dreamweaver or even *shrug* Microsoft Frontpage
2) Look at some of the other sites that have similar content to see what others are doing.
3) For the love of all that is good, please please please edit your images before you upload them. Especially if they are animated gifs. The ones you have posted on your site are way too large in file size.
3.5) DO NOT USE THAT MANY ANIMATED GIFS IN ONE SINGLE PAGE...
4) As far as opening a link on the same page, Dreamweaver has an option called "Target" where it lets you decide how you want your page opened: _blank, _parent, etc...
5)What is this site about exactly? there is no information about the product. Are you selling it? or are you just an enthisiast? This should be made clear on your home page.
hmmm... here is the low low low down, the page design is definitely elementary, but this means that you can only improve fom here on out. So my advice to you is, do some research. Look at other sites, read books and keep practicing so that you upgrade your skills (or lack there of).
Grade: D - again, there is definitely a lot of room to improve.
Before I forget, PLEASE CRITIQUE 3 OTHER SITES AS PER THE POSTING POLICY. THANK YOU

first off, thanks! ok yes this is my first web page. no, its not the html editor that came with the web host, its mozilla composer. i cant get a copy of Dreamweaver, way to much money, and i wont steel it eather. i might be able to get front page though. i have looked at some of the other sites, but there are only 3 others so i cant get to good of an idea. about the images, they take to long to load? how can i fix this? im useing qif and work prety well. should i put less images? also about the animated gif, that is on the download page? i cant take out the screenshots, but ill take out the download thingis. you were saying in dreamweaver i could edit the link, i dont have dreamweaver, so is there a way i could do it with html? i will try to make the home page more descriptive. i was thinking about rerighting it all in php. would you recommend this? are there any free php scrips i could use?
thanks,
Amrod

there are plenty of other free editors out there if you must use one (as mentioned aviod frontpage), one comes to mind is Arachnophilia, believe its free, have never used it myself.
If your knowledge of HTML is limited I wouldn't recommend doing it in PHP, as PHP uses HTML to display the contents (in most cases) and any script you do find will have to be changed to suit your needs. hotscripts.com is a great place if you ever did want any among others (google is your friend )
pretty good for a first site.

Don't use FrontPage as it produces crappy code! Learn to write html - all you need is notepad. I agree with everything else that was said above, the site does look amateurish and it looks like everything has been chucked on the page with no real design. Get a decent graphics program so that you can design the layout in that and then slice up the images and get smaller file sizes.
The links for home & GUIs open in the same window but links opens to a new window because you have target="links.html" within the link.
One other thing I would definitely change is the font you have used for the buttons & header - it's far too hard to read and I don't think it fits the subject matter.
Good luck

OK, I was about to say that the Doctype comes before anything else but I see that its computer generated so I'll leave it at that...
I like the rollovers that you have used for the navigation. However, try to preload the images that you have on hover. E.g. guiover.gif. If you don't know how to preload images, you can find it on my site.
The site itself doesn't look to me like it has had any "design" done to it. Looks very typical - navigation on the left, content on the right.
Content isn't displayed effectivly either. Firstly choose another font or style it it better - maybe justify the text.
A good start, lots of room for improvement - which is good.

Hang in there. Years ago, when I first wanted to design pages, I didn't know ANYTHING about them. I was even lost by the most basic HTML.
Now, I can write all of my HTML by hand, design my own graphics, and write complicated PHP scripts and SQL queries. It didn't cost me much money, just an investment in a couple of good books and a lot time (not to mention trial and error).
For my money, a good HTML book is much better than a WYSIWYG editor in the beginning. You really need to understand HTML to a certain degree, because the editors don't always give you what you're looking for. For about $50, you can get a top notch book, practice in an editor like Notepad or JED, and you will be well on your way. Once you get down the basics, there are a lot of sites on the web that can help you with layout and design examples.
Good luck to you,
Craig

A bit bland, and I personally wouldn't use Times New Roman as a navigation font. Good start, it can only get better.

I get a horizontal scrollbar at 800*600 because the image is 800px and the max you can have is 750 or 770 if the page has 0 margins, so your cell sizes will need to be changed as well. You also need to put height & width in for your images and don't put px next to the size for the tables.
The site is still very ameteurish looking not at all helped by the page transitions, the table border and the centered navigation. Work on your coding, make sure it validates and learn more about css then come back to it and work on the design aspect.
