REVIEW REQUEST: www.ucanfindfreelancers.com
Ok I would love some feedback that is good or bad. My site is at http://www.ucanfindfreelancers.com. I will give a quick overview of this site. If you are familiar with Elance.com then you already know the concept of my site. It is a marketplace that brings webmasters and programmers and/or webdesigners together. The difference between my site and Elance is that on my site it is free to sign up, post a project, bid on a project, and there are no monthly fees. This site creates a win/win situation for everyone. When a webmaster posts a project then freelancers will bid on that project which in effect keeps the webmasters costs down. The freelancer benefits from the luxury of making money in his/her spare time or can make it a primary source of income. I will say that I am working on obtaining a new design and I will be posting my project there to do it. Thanks for your time and checking out my site.

All I'm seeing right now is a message saying the site is currently offline. What exactly did you want us to review? The concept?

The text is way to small to read in NS4.7
Has a layout problem (bottom right) in IE5
Mozilla doesn't display all the content, misses out programmer and project name sections. Looking at your code I'd say you have some empty td cells or missing tags, try validate it
none of the images have alt tags and you should really use lowercase tags and quote all values
and you have some php errors
Warning: Failed opening 'd_top.php' for inclusion (include_path='.') in /export/web19/omega/ucanf001/www/site_top_programmers.php on line 3
what did you use to make it?
in your first page you have
but on your faq page you have

Thanks for the feedback except I don't see some of the errors that you see. Of course this is one of the reasons I posted here so I could be made aware of these things. I know that there are some different php and html pages. It would take to long to explain that but that is why I am working on a redesign to clear that up once and for all. For the person who replied that the url didn't work all I can say is please try again because it works everytime I enter it. As for what I list on the homepage compared to the faq, there were no lies as far as what I described pertaining to fees. Maybe you were trying to imply that it was misleading and I can see your argument on that. It is free to join, post or bid on a project but once the project has been accepted by both parties then there is a minimal fee paid to the site. I beleive that the fees are very competitive and are very reasonable considering the service you will receive. Most sites charge you just to join, then charge you monthly membership, and then charge a commission on the project. But I am making a point to change the wording on my pages and to also change the design. I invite all of you to open a FREE account to actually use the site. You may see that the functionality and service you get outway the temporary design. Thanks for all the feedback and please keep it coming.

That logo really needs work. I can't begin to say what's wrong with that one. Learn something about kerning, first of all.
Otherwise the top header area isn't too bad, although I think there's too much centering going on in the lines under the logo. Something different needs to be done with that. Maybe take the top two lines and move them to a side navigation area. It doesn't seem to make sense to have them horizontally like that. With a sidebar you could clearly set out the headings and make things much more obvious to the user.
I like what you've done with the "webmasters" and "programmers" boxes in the middle of the page. It would be nice if that was a little closer to the top.
It looks like you have a good set-up here. Make sure you change all your default fonts to match what you've got on the front page..

I agree with Megan on the logo, the stipes just make the eyes go funny and detract from the actual logo. I normally moan about text being too small but in this instance I think your main text font is too big and doesn't look professional, maybe try a slightly smaller size in veranda. The only pther thing I've to add is to redo your roundeed corners as they are really jaggedy, especially at the bottom.
I like the colours and with a bit of tweeking it'll be good

Very interesting responses. As for the logo, I had a pay-per-click-search-engine at http://www.ucanfind.com that used a simular logo so in a attempt to cross market both sites I used logos that were uniform in order to let people from my search engine know that they are at a site of a company they know and can trust. My search engine is currently offline but will be up shortly an dI can ensure you that the design and layout are much better. I can't wait to get this sites design done. The most interesting thing I found with this feedback is the size of the font. First I was told it was to small which I agree with. So I changed it last night and now I am told that it is to big which I agree with that to. I was having a hard time getting it to be between what it was and what it is now. I guess that is why I pay for a professional to do the design. HA!HA! I truly want to run a clean, legit business and I do believe I offer a quality serice. I appreciate everybodies comments because it will help insure that I accomplish my goal. Thanks again and I hope to see you on my site or maybe me on yours.

Oh wow, new design! Looks nice! Did you end up hiring someone to do this or us e atemplate or something?
The only thing I can complain about is that some of the text is really tiny. LIke the bit under the logo. Same with the bits beside the "webmasters area" and "programmers area". Another thing is the arrows that seem to be pointing in abstract directions sometimes.
I also think that the tables with the listings of freelancers and projects shouldn't span the whole page - it's a little too wide at higher resolutions. Shrink that down to 90% or so, and make sure all your fonts are showing in the sans serif you're using elsewhere.
psst - might want to look into stylesheets for font management - much easier way of keeping things consistent and cuts down on coding.

I agree that it is much better although I get a horizontal scrollbar at 800*600 meaning I have to scroll quite a bit to see the whole lot or resize to a higher res. Nothing really more to add to what Megan already said.

Thanks to all for the encouraging comments. I have a designer that is working on the site. I have the exact same feelings that all of you have about having to scroll left to right. I have brought it up to my designer but he says he can't make it smaller. He made it for a resolution of 1024x786 or something like that. I told him I need it at 800x600 but he said he couldn't do it. I will have to find another designer to do it. I also am aware of some of the font and other issues pointed out. The design is almost done and those changes will be made. Thanks for your feedback and rember my site if you ever need to get quotes on programming or webdesign. Thanks again.

There's no reason why it can't be made to fit at 800 x 600 without sacrificing design integrity. The only thing that's taking up that horizontal space is the "webmaster" and "programmer" boxes in the middle. These could be stacked on top of each other rather than placed side-by-side. Either that or you could move the little navigation areas to go underneath the text instead of beside it. I think the latter would be the best option.

Again I feel the same way and I just instant messaged my designer with your comment Megan. I hope he figures it out. I will say in his defense that he is only 16 years old. He is still learning and I think he has done one heck of a job for not having the experience. But I think he can do better and will. I have sent all your comments to him in hopes that he makes postive improvements to his skills.
