REVIEW REQUEST: www.nicora.com
Well, I think I am going to re-design my website once again... I have thrown up just a quick model of what I want, and it is only working in IE5.5+. Sorry NS, Opera and Mozzila users. Of course if I get good feedback and I am happy with it, I'll make it compatible. Anyway, tell me what you think of the design. Thx.
(I know the font is too small, but that's the way I like it )

Definitely looks better at smaller resolutions as there is just soooo much blank space at larger ones. That said it's quite a nice design and I like the colours but there are a few things I'm not so sure about:
- The text is very small and I'm sure a lot of people will find it hard to read
- The line thing moving above the links is annoying (to me any way)
- I don't like the picture of the hands (what relevance to the site??)
- The background of the main box just doesn't look right IMO but it might be different with lots of text over it
Julia - if life was meant to be easy Michael Angelo would have painted the floor....

is the about image an ice cube?
may be better with content but at the moment has to little against to much going on, example whats the white box (bottom leftish) going to?
I'm with The Webmistress on the moving line, would be better if it stayed above the link clicked
you mentioned the font, is so small parts of the letters are missing, the o looks like a sideways u, the A looks like a backwards R

It really looks "askew" at higher res - perhaps center it?
Your logo reads as "nicoro" to me
Perhaps your about page will explain the significance of the hands? Otherwise, I'm not sure of the point of them either.
Typo alert: to re-design there existing site.
Is your main site content going to require scrolling ala your "news" box (which could use some identification, by the way)? If so, I think you're creating too many "hoops" for your users to leap through in order to reach your content.

First glance I really like this layout!
Its clean and crisp and pleasing to the eye (god that sounds corny  )
Do you have a hand fetish or are they relevant. They gotta mean something I suppose just not sure what.
That line thing is pretty cool (sorry Julia ) Curious how you did it though...
The font is OK for me at 800 x 600 but for the big boys and gals things could get pretty miniscule...
Nice, I like it...

The line that has everyone in an uproar doesn't look that bad but it is just a tad annoying. Sorta reminds me of that online ping pong game. I like the colors and the images of the hands are nice too but I am like the others....why the hands. Please explain. *just curious*
This may be a problem on my end but the images for each page are not loading.
I think taff made a good point about your logo looking like "nicoro". Not a biggie but something to think about.
Megan posted a good site yesterday that shows how different font sizes display on different browser/platform combinations. Take a look at this. you might change your mind about the 8pt. But if you just have to keep it I guess we will forgive you. Working with Fonts
On the links at the top, your "resume" and "contact" look chopped off in places. If you want a screenshot of what I see just say so and I will post it.
I think this will look really nice once you get your content added.

The site gives me an odd feeling. It doesn't have a scrollbar and does not have a definite bottom. It like the site just blends into dissapearance at the bottom.

I like the changing images at the top... I've got something similar on my site...
On the font side of things it is quite small... The main text is ok, but the links are just too small...
The line is I'm not sure... It's gimicky and although at first look you'd think cool, after a while it'd just annoy me...
Overall I like the layout but use a bigger font...

I also have IE5 but the page didn't work for me either. Try to find a script that would recognize the visitor's browser version and redirect them to the approriate page based on their browser. You may be losing a lot of visitors as a lot of people still use older versions of IE.

For a rough draft, I think it is very good. It has a very clean feel andnd despite the newage look, a rather simplistic nature. I like that a lot. On the entry page, I had trouble finding the text that offered the options of opening the site in a new window, or the same. You may want to toy with those link colors.
I like the lines on the navigation menu, but i could certainly appreciate how some might find them annoying.
It is a great start, and it will be interesting to see it populated with information.

I don't see the point of the opening page, use a script to determin browser and redirect accordingly. Also for me the content of the page is far too far down the page and the lines are still annoying to me!

I have IE5, but the text on the first page was gray on gray - the text was very difficult for me to find. I thought that the graphics on the second page were very pretty (different each time!) but their purposely out-of-focus design made it difficult for me to view the what was going on. I found the two pages very confusing.

Thank you everyone for the comments. I have decided to mothball the original look. Although I believe that the basic design was sound, compatibility and UI issues finally changed my mind. So, I decided to go with the concept that LESS = MORE. I created a very simple layout that I think is clean and well organized. It uses the XHTML DTD, so I doubt that NS or IE 4 and below will work, and that's OK with me. It is, however littered with grammer/spelling errors. Any help with that would be greatly appreciated. Let me know what you think. Thanks in advance.

It is very plain & very simple and IMO the splash page is a waste. On the other pages the effect at the bottom looks like the image hasn't all appeared. The text is too small IMO and at larger resolutions the whole thing just gets lost on screen. It's ok & very fresh looking but doesn't grab the attention I don't think.

Thanks again for the comments.
IMO, the splash page is a waste too. I'm going to fill it with a nice sized example of my digital work, and then list the site requirements.
Also, keep in mind that this site is NOT to grab the attention of your average surfer - but rather a corporate creative director. There are certain "standards" in the design community today, and 11px font happens to be one. I'm sorry if this forces anyone to put there glasses on. This will not be a site to promote on yahoo and draw in random surfers, its directed at a specific audience.

ooh sorry, I don't like this one at all.
It... lacks design, in my opinion. It doesn't reflect at all the quality of work I've seen come from you. The little "border fragments" and corner pieces, while probably intentional, look like.. well, fragments. They appear to be the result of coding errors rather than design elements.
I haven't followed this thread too closely and frankly can't recall the previous look but this one is way too minimalistic.

I like the eye but if I were you I would make your fonts just a wee bit smaller....ROFL. Better hope taff has had coffee when she sees that.
