Hi Everyone:

I am new to this web design thing, my site has been up for three months only. I would like to hear from some of the experienced users, as to how I can improve it.

Thanks in advance,

Welcome to TWF leenkz.
You have a few browser issues i'll address first,
the search section (all the web) is left aligned in NS and Opera, looking at your code (a FP master piece Smiling ) your missing a closing tag in the first section.
I also noticed your font tags:
You also have a lot of other faults, like  Home  which doesnt the   as a space in your code would do and you should always use alt tags with your images.

Your site map looks like there are a lot of unlinked links (links on sitemap vs links on site), or maybe they are i just didnt see them.

if i click on the site reviews link "home" (which should be renamed to homepages or something, as it could be confusing, anyways, the site review link is gone from the main section and no back link is supplied.
the more i look around your site the more confusing its getting, I think you may have to much content in there, maybe split the content up a bit, color code the sections even, but try keep the main links the same through out.
Your banner, or logo could do with some beefing up, its way to plain to the rest of the content, big buttons, bold fonts ... also that animated check email graphic gets real annoying.

My suggestion is if your going to use frontpage, you should get a html tidier or fixer, as they come in handy. A few errors in your html code could spell doom for some of your visitors.

First impression is that it's far too cramped and everything is on top of each other. Space things out a bit more. I would say that you need a new logo as it's way overpowered by everything else that's on the page and could do with some colour. The moving envelopes are very, very annoying and look a bit tacky & the chain links need to be much smaller IMO.

This isn't too bad for a start, but there are a few things you could do to improve it. The first thing is those link graphics. They are way too big and seem to really chop up the page layout.

The second thing is your navigation buttons. In many cases the text is overlapping the little graphics on the left side, which really detracts from the look. There is no reason why this should happen, because there seems to be enough space on the right side of the buttons to bump the text over a little bit. While you're at it, left align the text there instead of centering it.

I'm also finding that the layout could generally use some organization. Try using coloured table backgrounds to separate out different areas of the layout. Another way to improve this to just space things out a little bit more - the top area, in particular, seems to be very crammed together.

One more thing - site organization. When I'm looking in the site reviews area I'm finding that it is taking me quite a few "clicks" to get to some actual reviews. his is the path I took: Site Reivews > Computers > Graphics > Wallpaper - that's three empty pages I had to click through before getting any actually content. I would lean towards fewer categories with more content at this point in time. Once you have more reviews done you can try subdividing the categories further.

There is some work to be done here but I feel that you have done a good job on your first time out. What I do like is the little stick figures in the buttons and the coordinating font for the logo text. It might be an idea to work further with that style in other graphic elements.

Thanks to all who have commented so far.

I will get right to work on some of the stuff, I am torn about continuing the use of Frontpage, or actually coding it, as I know most tags of HTML. I just dont know anything about javascript besides copy and paste:). I will have to think about that, I sure want to gain more control. FrontPage sure seems to leave a lot of crappy code after you have edited a page a few times.

I'll try to work on some of those things over this week and weekend,

Thank you all,

Peace,

Webmonkey.com has an article about how to use borrowed Javascripts:

http://hotwired.lycos.com/webmonkey/99/30/index1a.html?tw=programming

This is really all you need to know - how to borrow a script and make it work for you. Of course, it is nice to be able to understand the code and program your own little applications but you can always learn that later.

I think it looks a bit clutered; everything is to close together IMO.
The animated email images are really annoying!

Its a pretty cool site though

I'd like to reiterate on the spacing. It is way too cluttered. Your organization is fine once you resolve your spacing issues IMO. Just take it slow and don't let everything overwhelm you. I know how easy that can happen.

I browsed the page a bit and the only thing I saw that was very annoying was the free mail icon in the left corner. That just drove me crazy while i was looking around at first. Wink

hey...i think that your search engine shouldnt be at the top, since that is the first thing that is seen. you should put it along the side, farther down the page. i also agree with everyone else, it is a little cramped.

Hello there.

If you do not want to use frontpage - you can try dreamweaver.

I feel that your homepage is way too long. Try to shorten it a bit.

I feel that you have overdone your nav. It is at the top, side and bottom. Then, on your secondary pages, the main nav is no longer on the side - instead you have the section nav. Though the concept is good - and it is easy to navigate - I would put the main nav always on the side and bottom and put the section nav along the top.

I would also shorten your main nav so that it always shows up on the page so you don't have to scroll.

Good job on the information!

I have followed some of the suggestions:

I have moved the search bar down the page a bit.

I have changed the annoying email .gifs for text links.

I have attempted to space things out a bit.

I will do something about the nav bars, but that will take a little reorganizing, so that might take a few days!

Please continue to send your suggestions.

My first suggestion is to reduce them amount of content on the opening page. Opening your site is like walking into a room and having 50 people all speak to you at once. You don't hear a single word and just want to take a step back.

I'd eliminate anything that does not absolutely need to be on that page. You have a menu down the side linking to a stack of pages, why not leave most of the info on that page to them? Also your latest reviews take pride of place on the main page but surely the taking center stage on your site should be a directory listing of reviews?

Whew that is a lot of stuff for the home page. Oh well, at least you have navigation links at the bottom of the page.Wink

I think your logo needs to be bigger and either get rid of the links on the side or the top. You don't really need both.
