Hello all..I am relatively new to this and have designed a small, static 10 page website in photoshop and just exported to html. It's basically just a compilation of sliced .gif files with no real (spider friendly) text. I know this is not good but the text effects I get in photoshop are so much nicer and more appealing but I need to get website rankings. When I try to just add text over the sliced images in "dreamweaver" or "goLive" the fonts look horrible and pixelated. Any suggestions on how to get optimized, aesthetic, readable text into my photoshop created website while maintaining the same look?

Photoshop isn't good for creating actual html and my advice would be to learn proper html and just use photoshop to create the design/layout then slice up the graphics to be placed within tables in html and always use html for text - you wont be able to have the same fonts and effects but it will be easier to read, search engine crawlable and accessible to those who either have graphics turned off or use screen readers.

Can you please review some of the others sites in this section as per the posting agreement.

slow loading optomize those gifs. Everywhere looks "like" navigation but its not. might want to post location as apparently you exist everywhere and nowhere. Obviously target clients live within X miles of your location.
i dont like when things open in a new window ,especially when it takes me to a dif site. -Josh

Do you come from a print design background? I think what you need to understand is that the web is not print. Looking good is not the most important thing - by far. Functionality always comes first. The web by nature is a mixed media environment - there are many tools at your disposal, and it's always important to use the best tool for the job.

About your text problem, try learning CSS (cascading style sheets) - it'll give you a lot more control over your text. Otherwise you kind of have to accept the pixely look as a fact of life (although it helps if you set your computer to "smooth edges of screen fonts"). Really, I don't think it looks bad at all at small font sizes, such as what you're reading now. If you really want to you can always use graphics for larger text and headers.

I think that part of the problem with your site as it is now is that there is way too much text on there. It's difficult to figure out which text to focus on since it's all competing for my attention. Try to pare it down to the bare essentials, and provide more information on other pages.

Your horizon is crooked in your homepage pic, or is this all part of the effect of "your world is crooked you need help"?
Takes a while to load, kind of depressing waiting around for it to finish.
It had an impact on me though, got me thinking that maybe I should do something about my drinking problem.

Thanks for all the feedback..I think I will read up some more on CSS and try to salvage as much of the look and feel as I can while incorporating real text on the site...Thanks again everyone...

Although I like the look of the site in general, I too agree that it take a long time to load. Also, as jha2297255 mentioned, I found myself clicking everywhere as everything looks like a link. I think you can achieve the same feel with standard text which will decrease the load speeds. Overall, I like it although the page speeds did leave me twiddling my thumbs.

not bad looking, but waaaaay to many graphics. If you need to get listed in search engines, putting alt text on your image tags might help a little bit, but proper text is much more important!

This was my first thought also. This looks more like a "print preview" for a paper brochure than it does a web site.

Hello
I think losing the horizon graphic would help, even though its there for soothing purposes it doesnt work for me, you could achive that with a clean design and clear direction for visitors, they come to your site for assistance, so the site need to be clear cut and easy to navigate..Photos of the staff and some background would be nice i think.
Good luck with the site.

Graphics are nice and all - you have a real talent in that area. As far as web pages go - I echo much of what was already said. You want to have text on the page so search engines know what you're about. Text loads right away, where graphics are files that can take a long time to load.

A big no-no in my opinion is creating a webpage w/ text that is a .gif. Heading, graphics, are ok, but text should be done in html.

i to agree, the load time is bad but the content is very good.

The main page is really "busy". Clear some of the stuff out of the way and create some little "empty" space to give it some room. Especially the "about" page. Lots of content, that's always good. But the crowdedness of the website is the only thing that I can see wrong.

It looks darn good, but loads so slow even on a highspeed connection! At the very least you should have an alternative plain HTML version.

Having said that, what an awesome website! (Both in principle and content). You just need to make an HTML version for dialup users... you don't want people changing their mind on getting rid of their addiction while waiting to load up the page. Sticking out tongue
