Welcome to TWF Tommy,
I like your logo, although the last S has been chopped at the end. The rest of the site is ok but there are too many big spaces, like around the search and under the categories heading and the content. Reduce these a bit and it should tighten things up. I also get a horizontal scrollbar at 800*600.
I also think that the amazon banner is too strong compared to the rest of the content and draws your eye away from the important stuff as your content seems a bit washed out in comparison.
The bottom looks a bit odd as the white line starts a quarter into the page and looks unfinished.
A good start

Then avigation under that tabs - do you really need to use images for that? Why not use text? If you really must use images why not make them rollovers? If you don't want rollovers, then make the other links on the page do something, it's too static, may be change the text-decoration or the the colour.
The bit down at the bottom right hand corner where it says "Up" is that ment to take the use up to the top of the page or is it just there to look pretty? If it's ment to take the user up to the top then it doesn't work :S
Over-all your site looks very cluttered and disjointed.
The search box looks fine but, to the right of it, there should be another line to "close" it off.
Similarly with the bottom as well, you have another border/line stopping no where, join it up to the body.
It's coming along ok, surfers like me like to see sites that look as though they 'fit' and have links that change and/or rollovers or else the page is just another static page, nothing else.
Good luck
p.s I don't know how many surfers there out there like me

I ageree about the odd sections of white space. Seems that the white content area should be shifted up and to the left so it's directly under the navbar. The whole page looks offset now.
I don't know if this is happening in other browsers but the navigation is moving when I navigate around the site. On the front page it's in the centre and on other pages it's flush left. I'm not sure which one is better but it should be consistent throughout.
Overall I really like the design. Great look and feel you've got going. Why not try changing the blue background colour to match the tab colours in different sections?
About the message board, try making that link more prominent. It could be that people just don't see it there. Once you get them to the forums, try posting some provokative threads. Things that most visitors would have an opinion on. That will help to get things going. Even better if you can get some arguments or controversy going.

co op with a local pet store or many local pet stores, hand out website fliers and tout "free technical advice on our forums" "dont drown your guppies" something catchy. you need 250 people to post, like the site, eventually tell their friends.
Alternatively goto Usenet type boards and answer questions and then leave your URL. -Josh

Logos good but is a little far to the left! Like the colour scheme and design. Its a bit random but looks good. Theres quite a lot of unused space is that planning on getting filled
