Review Request - TheProjectorGuide.com
Hi All
I wonder if you could help a fellow webmaster in need.
Im currently building a site for owners of home cinema projectors ( strictly non profit ) and I would love some suggestions before I go any further. I know there a quite a lot of dead links and I know there may be java errors the moment.
The Addy is:
http://www.theprojectorguide.com
I particulary like myself the gallery section
I look forward to hearing your suggestions
Thanks

Just a few quick comments before heading off to work.
BTW, welcome to TWF!
You have a wee bit of a horizontal scroll at 800X600.
Not crazy about the light tan color that you have for the background in the top part, left side and th background for the middle sections. These colors are making it seem a little bland to me. Not sure what you could use to liven this up a bit....Hmmmmmm
The blue bar images that you have in the middle part with "Feature", "Guide", and "Latest" needs a little work on the edges or either just get rid of them.
Oh, the gallery section is cute. hehe We have seen that second one (accessories) here before. That is temporary thought isn't it?
The layout is really find. IMO you need some color work on this one. I will look more and post again Thursday.

Thanks a lot. Im having second thoughts about the colour scheme a bit as well which is a bugger. The blue bar images I agree with as well.
"You have a wee bit of a horizontal scroll at 800X600."
Im trying to fix this now.

Not sure what your talking about here ?
It seems that you have pointed out everything that I am unsure about myself which means I should go ahead and make the changes. Looks like I'll be having a busy night. .... Shouts to secretery to forward all calls to my office for the next 24 hours LOL.
Thanks for your advice.

Hi!
I like the site but its a bit crowded, isn't it? I get a bit mixed up what to look at. It would be great to put in guidelines or some commercials what to look at. Also some Flash animation would do the site good!

I agree that it's a little crowded. What's the point of that chat thingy on the right? People don't seem to have much to talk about... well, not at this point in time anyway.
You definitely need to set a stylesheet for your text here. The default font doesn't look so good. I agree that the colours could use some work as well - maybe change the red and blue to something a little less bright like #000099 and #990000 - that would look really good with the tan (which I like - one of my favourite techniques is to use a neutral, lighter colour with two brighter ones in a colour scheme. It helps to bridge the gap between dark and light).
The header area could be simplified quite a bit - try to pare down the amount of text that's up there. The baby with the speech balloon could go too, unless that's got some sort of personal significance.

Ive had a little idea for the section areas. I know they still need work but its an idea. I think it makes the site a little more proffesional

That looks good! I didn't mind the 3D headers but they did tend to complicate the page more than was necessary.
Oh, and I also have to say that I really like the clip-art pieces you've used to highlight the various sections - they really help to liven up the site.
And another thing - the menu isn't working in Opera. Even in IE, I think that the fade-in is a little slow. It's kind of surprising at first, because I didn't expect to see a pop-up there, and then I had to wait for it. I would re-think that menu...

First thing is the horizontal scrollbar at 800*600 which is being caused by the top graphics/table being so wide and even setting your margin to 0 wont stop this, you need to reduce the total width of the graphics. I'm really not sure about the colours, I would actually change the blue to a different shade as this one looks a bit garish to me.
I would also get rid of the chat part on there and just stick to having the forum, this will also take off some clutter from the main page. You can't see all the messages that are on there anyway.
Overall nice site though

First up add a page title "untitled document" looks unfinished
Is a little slow to load, about 140kb
In Opera6 (as opera6) the menu works but has no background color so the text is impossible to read. Clicking the "gallery" link crashs Opera, happened twice so arent going to try it again as ie.
The gallery page in IE5 I'm getting a lot of broken images, mostly the top banner section
No menu at all in Mozilla
The "quick post" section top right, is that meant to be scrolling or scrolable? looks like the bottom line is cut off
the link http://www.theprojectorguide.com/indexmod.htm gives me a 404 error which I think is chatting me up
