Review Request: Searchwebby.com
The site is aimed at web designers and developers as it's main audience and is a directory of sites aimed at the technical nature of their job. A the moment its very basic as its up just to get the search engines to index the content.
Thoughts on the speed and accuracy of the search facility wold be appreciated!
There will be a lot more content coming and facilities that will make it "not another webmaster directory" but in the first instance its just to get the bots crawling it...

Really basic. If you have time I'd brand the whole name of SearchWebby with a logo of some sort. Search speed looks good. Lots of good resources.

well the idea at this point was to get the SE's to index the content so although its fit for human consumption, the se's are the priority at this point.
The bells and whistles will follow...

I like it. Very simple design but thats what I like. There isn't a whole lot distracting you from the content, which is what is most important, especially in this case. I wouldn't change much if I were you.

Seems to work quite well, although it is a bit bland looking. How about some color and contrast to spice things up a bit?

I like it. I see that you use a script or something to show the listing with a thumbnail from DMOZ. Nice Idea.

Thats right. I wrote a script to parse an category and its sub-categories that I fed into it. The script then grabbed the url and description and tored it into a local MySQL DB. DMOZ are quite happy for you to do this btw as long as you add their attribution at the bottom of the page.
The thumbshots are provided open source by thumshots.org. They are all held on their server so that cuts down on my bandwidth!
Again, open source though...

nice site. simple but looks elegant. Just try to do some contrast on colors especially on characters.

I really like the design. A rollover on the search button would be nice. My search went very quickly, although it didn't find "A list apart", but maybe that's not what I'm supposed to be lookign for?
