I am looking for input into our http://www.regionalhost.com website. Specifically, I am trying to find out what makes it attractive, what makes people leave, and what it should have which it doesn't. Plus, any other advice would be appreciated Smiling

first up, top right corner, must be flash, is asking for a plugin so gives your layout a 'broken' look (I have flash disabled and like many others perfer it that way).

You have a slight horz scroll at 800x600 (you have main table set to 800 wide, max should be 760).

It is slow loading on dialup, 170kb on index, taking over a minute to load, you also need to use width and height tags on ALL images, very jumpy while loading.

The grey is a little blah for a business site, looks like a car in primer - unfinished. the drop shadow on the section headings make it hard to read as well. how bout using the background colour of the "live help, click here .." logo top left, or a touch lighter

the menu doesn't seem to be working in Opera, but it looks like the page has hung, 170 kb and so far 4mins to try and load, could be the plugin hanging it. refreshed, page loaded but no menu. every page I try with opera seems to hang.

In IE the menu keywords are hard on top edge

Whats with the time and date down the bottom right of the page? last updated? the current time? if it's meant to be the current time don't use server side for it, use javascript as its the only one that worls off the persons pc. for me its a day out

Looks pretty much the same in Mozilla, IE and Opera (apart from menu)

Does the html writers guild or iwa actually do anything? dont mean to rubbish them but just about every site I've seen their logo on has bad html

well...its kinda ... boring. Way too basic for a business site. I'm sure that you would like to make some money off this deal, so you're going to have to spruce this up quite a bit. Like BUSY said, "the grey is a little Blah." This doesn't do much for me.

Boring(grey), slow load time, mostly what everyone else said

Grey's and black aren't the most exciting colours in the world. You could add a rollover font effect on the side bar to spruce it up. Nothing really attracts the visitors.

You have a good start but there are many things that are making the site look either unfinished or old & tired.

  • Colour scheme is too boring and the grey has a habit of making things look unfinished.
  • Drop shadows are not 'in' right now and so make it look old/ameteurish
  • Font used for logo doesn't 'fit' IMO
  • Header section looks cluttered - the IWA & Guild buttons should be elsewhere on the page if you have to have them and the 'domain reg' thing overpowers your logo and so should be within the main page
  • Bolding of text on rollover is a no-no for me, more colour needed instead

Just a couple of things to be getting along with Wink

I don't mean to come off harsh, I'm just going to critique the site as I see it. I know a thing or two, but I'm certainly not the all-knowing web-god, this is just my opinion - take it or leave it.

I'll start by natural progression, top to right, then down and around again.

Your logo, although clean, is the completely wrong font IMHO. You are a hosting company, and regardless of what you see out there, hosting means dependability, stability: fair and honest business practices with the notion of latest technologies and up-to-date know-how. I'm not saying that your logo says the opposite, it kind of reminds me of a grandmother's knitting "brand". I stated the above because: I don't think you need some hi-tech, bells and whistles "look" either. Go with what is normal, recognizable and clean, with a touch of modern flair. I would suggest a new color scheme, new font and either a new logo type or symbol to accompany this new brand.

Awards are great, they show that you have at least signed up to get it. In my experience, they (award affiliates) hand out these awards like business cards, if you want to display them, I would nest them a little - not advertise them on your header.

You have an uncharacterized (relative to the rest of your site) set up going on with your domain registration input field, I like that, but, and as with the rest of your site, you have drastic font inconsistencies. You go from a Times to what looks like Arial, I would find a family and stick with it.

Your menu is, like the whole site, a very early 1990-ish typical informational website. There is nothing here that says "use us to host your website: we have capable technicians to make your hosting experience more pleasurable than a Vinti Caramel Frapichino". I think you need an ambiance that depicts that message... and you don't have it.

The content of the site follows suit, it seems some-what "blah" and not interesting. As I inspect further into your site, you have a decent structure for information. I could find out what you are all about and all your pricing/service info. But, "Expired Names"... I'm sorry, maybe I'm a n00b, but I have no idea what the heck is going on there, you may need to explain that to an Interface Designer and let him/her create a better gateway to that craziness.

To be fair, the site has no major flaws and functions well. There is nothing WRONG with the site and I'm sure it will serve your purpose, but there is a lot of room for improvement. I hope you take this as constructive criticism, just ponder what I've said. I wish you good luck with the site.

you need *COLOUR!!*

Thats the plain and simple answer. I could write 20 pages on what you've done good (and I can see that you've put a lot of work into the site,) but its waaay too bland. Doesn't catch the eye.

You should also arrange the colours carefully and try to draw attention to specific areas with brighter colours.

seems like it's hard to find prices, when you view a hosting site you need (as said) color, and to see prices and comparison, on the first page
