Hello again everyone. I think I have finally made a final product of my site http://www.RecipeBOMB.com and I would like some reviews on it please. This is my first web site so I'm rather proud of it.

However this time I cannot offer a temporary password and user name for you to log in with, so you will be limited in viewing it unless you create an account. It only takes a few minutes.

Thanks!

Hi again Krash!

i still think you should loose the page transition effects, and looking at the page, I see 4 fonts being used. One for the top logo, another for the "Welcome to RecipeBomb.com" another for "If you're gonna do it, blow it up" and then the font used for the content.

The graphic at the top left needs some work. It has the jaggies and sorta looks lonesome sitting up there all by itself. The title graphic at the top right could be better. It just looks a tad bit on the simple side. What you really need is some color and I believe that this was brought up in the first critique of this site. I love purple and have a site in this color but purple just doesn't seem appropriate for this one.

Have you thought about turning off your table borders?

The navigation links on the left don't show up very well. This is what I would do....Make them white and bold and on mouseover make them the darker purple. (that is if you plan to leave the background colors as is)

Ok... I have registered now. Probably wouldn't have done that if I just ran up on the site surfing but I thought I would add to your collection.

I notice 5 small images just below where it says, "Choose the category you want to add to...". The one in the middle needs to be square like the others instead of having rounded corners. Nice images though. What about a thin black border around each? just a thought. Now I can't decide if chili is a soup or a miscellaneous so I will go for misc.

When will I get to see my recipe online? Laughing out loud

the links at the left are really hard to see, browsers that dont support css use the outter color, so always make this a light color.
and everything else Disaster master said lol
I'd loose the table borders, the purple (use a more pleasing to the eye color)
Another section you could have is universal ingredients, a lot of things are known as something else around the world, example, in NZ our ketchup is USA's tommato sauce, our tomato sauce is their ketchup. Whats called a buscuit in USA is known as a scone in other parts of the world. Lemonade in USA is a drink made of lemons, in NZ and other parts of the world lemonade is sprit, 7up etc, these are just the ones I can remember off the top of my head but I know there are heaps more

I'm not going to sign up but check your PM, I'm sending some recipes, (I promised some to someone a while ago but I forgot) I'm not sure if these are NZ foods but I know the Banana Cake isnt known in USA

Disaster-Master, I saw your new recipe and I already added it, actually I think I added it about 5 mins after you submited it.

I know the graphics need work, but I'm no graphics artist and I wish someone could help me on that.

As far as the colors and page transitions I get mixed feedback on that. Seems some people love 'em others hate 'em. I think I'll let time decide if they stay.

THanks for the reviews

P.S. thanks for the bananna cake recipe busy Smiling

Hey krash, on the recipe that i submitted...it should be 2 cans of kidney beans. Can ya fix that?

Oh, i like the little graphic of the kitchen utensils hanging up.Smiling

Will fix that.

I like the graphic you had on your page. Can I ask who made that for you? I would really like to have someone make a logo for my site but I'm poor and don't want to spend to much money. Sad

I haven't really much to add but I don't like the transitions for the record! I would also say that the hover colour on the links I would say should be a different colour than blue and make sure all your fonts match. The login parts seem to be default and padd out the table cells a bit more as I'm finding the text running very close to the edge is off putting when reading it.

ditto on the page transitions!
ditto on the graphics

Your body text could use a little breathing space (margins)on the left and right.

It has been mentioned before but the page transitions are somewhat annoying. I could probably take them once but every time that I click on a link, there they are again. I would reconsider them as they are a hindrance to someone doing multiple clicks on recipes. The graphics also need some work. Replace that clipart image up in the left corner and come up with a nice logo something that can 'brand' your site. You might also explain your site better to people. With a name like recipebomb.com, people might think that you only have recipes that bomb or create a (gut) bomb. The navbar could also be made to look better by changing the colors to make it stand out better. There is a site that my wife uses for recipes that gives her the option of printing it on an index card. Quite convenient.

Thanks for the replies eveyone. It seems that page transitions don't go over well in these forums, but I posted a site review at siteownersforums.com or some other forums ( don't remember I use so many! ) and I got nothing but compliments on them.

Maybe I'll add an option to turn them off or something.

I will adjust the margins and nav links a little though.

Also I like the index card idea, never thought of that. But in a few days I'm going to build a "Shopping List" system so that users can click a button to add all of the ingredients of a recipe to a shopping list. I've only seem one other site that did that and thiers didn't work well at all. It would duplicate similar items like maybe "eggs" and "hard-boiled eggs" instead of just saying "eggs". I've set my database up in such a manner that I think I will be able to make a 95% accurate shopping list system.

Thanks again,

Hey everyone I just made a few updates to the site. Could you please take a look at it now and tell me what you think?

http://www.Recipebomb.com

I added white links on the navagaion panel like ppl keep suggesting, I think it makes me want to puke but I'd like to hear what ya think about them.

I don't know why ppl had a hard time reading the blue links, I think they looked great and were easy enough to read, but then again the same site can look 100x different on someone else's machine.

The mods I made did mess up my page in NS a little bit but i will work on that later.

I still don't like the blue rollovers and think you should at least bold the nav text but ya know what? Why don't you just do what the heck you want. It is your web site and it is definately not work puking over a web site. Right? That takes all the fun out of it. All we can do here is give suggestions and everyone does have differences in opinions. And that is ok.

In my opinion the blue clashes really bad with the purple but if that is what you want then go for it. If everyone liked purple and blue together this would be a mighty boring world. And i think you deserve a hand for the recipe database. I couldn't have done it. Laughing out loud

Keep trudging on!

lol thanks D-master I do appericate the support. I think i will attemp to yet again redesign the layout tonight, but it is the back end database that I'm mostly proud of. I think your the only one from these forums though that signed up so you are the only on here who can look at all that.

Oh well, I am the odd-ball.Laughing out loud That is ok though. I don't mind. My mamma always told me I was different.

Recipes are not really my thang but if it helped you see if your database was working then it was worth it.
