REVIEW REQUEST: Puzzles Page
Hi, everyone,
I've been busily writing my first real php script (that does something), with the help of Mark (see the Scripting Forum).
Now I need some feedback on the frontside:
carterjackson.com/joshua/puzzle.php
What I'm looking for is:
1. ease of use
2. general impressions on look
3. any suggestions for features.
The mini-app connects to a 3rd party app (JigZone), so I can't do anything about the JigZone part itself (it's clearly delineated), but the rest I can do pretty well anything I want.
Opinions please!
Suzanne

These are great Suzanne!
I do have to admit that I was snooping on your site a good while back and found those. I think you had two or three puzzles then, can't remember but I put several of them together. LOL The are real neat but I am a big huge puzzle fan too.
The image quality is surprisingly good. Nice work and a very creative idea. Kudos to you! And those are some beautiful younguns' you have there as well.
BTW...I have this loaded on my computer and spend hours doing puzzles. http://www.brainsbreaker.com/

oh no! not more puzzles! lol... my kid takes over my computers as it is!
Thanks, Sonia,
I'm going to try to pay attention to the look and feel now, tighten it up and make it look better. I've been neglecting my personal and business sites for far too long!

yeah, yeah and we are supposed to believe that? In reality, you probably hog your computer just like the rest of us.
Oh, I read you blog sometimes too....you are right up there with Zeldman.

lol, I have two computers, and I rarely use them both at the same time.
My husband uses them both as well, for school, but yes, most of the hours logged are mine mine mine!

Java Applet Puzzles powered by JigZone.
Thanks also to Dana, a Digital Diva, for her inspiration in learning how to create (?) a better display. - at least get rid of a "to"
"third party" is typically hyphenated as an adjective
another stuttering copyrighter, eh?

Yeah, there are multiple copyrights on the page, lol... I found it expanded to 1024 in N6, even if I had the browser smaller, but I don't know if that's because that's my resolution is 1024? Maybe I'll scoot down to 800 and see if that makes it fit at 800. It tends to expand to the available width on other browsers. Opera, though, lol, it's only an inch wide. Makes it hard to do the puzzle.
I'll plow through the text and make it tighter, as well, thanks.

a couple of times the easy (6 pce) puzzles gave me an error page, could be my end as is stormy here.
The titles above the puzzles are very hard to read (using IE).
maybe put the "both" under Sheridans section, was a lil confusing at first who "both" was.
as for features, if you have scores etc, how about a fastest time, most done ..., think a time to bet would be fun
congrats, nice lil page there

Could be a lot of things, this server is iffy, and JigZone occasionally gets overrun.
I don't have access to the JigZone stats, sadly. If I knew how to write Java Applets, I could do that! Perhaps a comments section asking people to submit their scores? Screen shots? I'll think about how to integrate that, good idea!
Good point on the both, will do. Done.
I've been playing with the look, and tightening up the text (different for the three possible states -- thumbnails, text menus, puzzle itself).

Okay, I think I've addressed most of the layout issues and ugliness, though not too much. I am toying with the idea of further customizing it, but I want to be able to eventually sell this for a token amount, so it needs to be customizable without being customized. So there are concerns that hard coding would fix, but that I won't be fixing because it's generated, if that makes sense.
If you could give it another look, I'd appreciate it.

And you can be as critical as you please. Just don't be mean.

ok I have a complaint for Jigzone, I did the 247 triangles tower puzzle, took me just under an hour but couldnt get the last two pieces in, the puzzle hide them, grrr lol
have you tried puting the "go" bottom right of the puzzle image to keep everything within the puzzle image? so its the image, options then "go" under and to the right of the options instead of beside it
