I don't like the black bg. The safe choice would be white, but a colour other than black would be better.
I wouldn't have your links open new pages unless it's to something that takes ppl away from your site.
Why does your gallery use thumbnails but the butterflies page doesn't? Btw the top butterfly image didn't load.
Your photos are really good and should be made the best of. There are some great portfolio sites around that display their work in the best way possible, take a look at a few and see if you can do anything to make more of your work.
I would either lose the top logo and make your title more prominent in the main picture (maybe move it down to just above the main flower and with a bit more intensity) or lose the title in the main pic. As it is it's distracting to the eye.

I think that the black background works well here. It sets the photos off really nicely. I don't think they would look as nice on a different background.
Opening those links ina pop-up is definitely a problem, especially since the back button stays in the same window.
I think that one thing you need to watch is the amount of scrolling on all of your pages here. I would remove all of those ad banners and otehr stuff. This should be a showcase of your photos - nothing else. If you must have all those banners there keep them on a separate page somewhere. I find that they're realy interefereing wiuth my enjoyment of your photos (pls. excuse all these typo-s! can't type todya...) On the butterfly page, use thumbnails and pop-ups to display larger versions rather than putting larger versions all on one page. You can find software to set that up for you if you want.
Also keep your logo the same on every page. It keeps changing so that's confusing. Keep a full navbar on every page as well, and change that font from teh default (ugly). I do really like what you've done with the logo graphics, particularly the one on the front page.

The resume actually matches my other site: school-library.net, which is an academic resources and technology for schools site.
Thanks for all of your input.

I'm on a 56k connection.
Gallery page is slow loading. The idea behind thumbnails is that they'll load small samples of larger images quickly. By html-resizing images, only visual dimensions are reduced, but filesize remains large. Resize your photos in an image-editing app (IrfanView) and use those for thumbnails, linking to the originally big images.
Also, some of the banners on the home page link offsite and some link within. Hard to tell which is which, so I assumed at first that they're all offsite links and ignored them. Put intrasite links in a clear nav. And don't have anything but offsite links open in a new window.

1) I tend to disagree but then again, my eyes are still pretty young.
2) not quite sure what you mean? If you are talking about the yellow logi, i agree the colour could use some changing... the font I seem to get is Times New Roman. Maybe I do not have it installed?
As for the rest of the site being just pics, that is not true.. its just hidden. There is a resume and profile, you can order tshirts, learn about buddha, and the old site has poetry etc. Just need to make everything accessible from the home page IMO.

Actually, I rather enjoyed your website. If this is your photography, I think you have some serious talent. I am only an amateur photographer myself (really hope to get that Nikon 5700 someday).
Some things:
-Get rid of the "new window" popups! Bad Bad Bad!!
-Make the Shop Page more clear... include some pics of the tshirts etc, not just the images. Tell us about the images (caption).
-For contact area, mention what province/state you are in at least. (I don't think it is a good idea to list your phone number, but that is your decision not mine).
Nice profile and resume... why not make it match the rest of your website and post it on your homepage? Make sure you fix the first picture in the photo album.
I loved the page on Buddha and why you picked this domain name. Overall this is a nice website!!

a few things:
1) Using black as the background colour seems to be hard on the eyes.
2) I am not much for the title font and it being part of the pic below it.
the rest of the site is just links to pics....so there is not really a lot to say about the site.
