THe idea is good if not brillant. However, as the user I could do with an explanation of what the site is about up front (on the home page).
Also think you can improve the attractiveness of the site and maybe even the adverts on it.
I think you will reach your target though.
Good luck.

Personally, I would make the counter a bit smaller so the ads would be higher up. Although you want the counter to be the focus, the advertisers want their ads to be the focus. Making the counter slightly smaller would better achieve a balance between the two.

It is obvious that the focus is the counter, yet its so bogus that it takes the shine off all other insertions to the site, including other pages! The tendency is that users will think all there is to this site is the counter and so will not bother to go further. However, I suggest that a bit of other attractions be added to draw more users to the site, while you embellish the counter in the background. This will act like two edged sword to getting your aim fulfilled and faster too.

Hi
Cheers for the comments. Yea it's a bit tough to balance the idea of the counter being the focus of the site and the fact that it's not that attractive...
Your comments have been noted and I'll see if I can change anything soon
Thanx

You've got a few noughts to go yet skippy! If my calculations are correct you need 7,042,086.908450704 views per day to reach your target.
Cool idea though, and if it's possible to make this sort of thing work it's on the Internet. Shame it looks a little spammy with those adverts in there, just seems like something created as a money-spinner instead of a real idea. It would be better to draw people in by telling them about what you're doing, winning their "hearts and minds" and asking them politely to support you in case you lose.
What about offering to donate all the cash to charity if you win the beer?

I like the idea behind it, is something I'd do, but without the ads.
Has a big horziontal scroll at 800x600 and the logo is very blurry.
I think you will loose money the more ads you get, especially when you are using affiliate ads as well, without the ads you may get more, why not just set the ads in a revolving banner or something below the counter, better yet ask for donations and place the persons homepage/business link on a seperate page but make it as a thank you page rather than a advertising page. As JeevesBond said people would be more likely to donate out of kindness than to have a tiny pic amongest heaps of others.
The yellow links in the banner section are the wrong colour as you also have yellow text up there, the counter is way to big so hides these links, I'd be willing to bet your logs would show this page is responsible for being the main exit page (no one views anything else after this)
You are wrong about that page being the only site on the net with just a counter and ads reaching high views, a link farm is the same thing but the otehr way around. The "what is this" page is confusing, it talks about 5 million witha mention of a billion but the last paragraph says 5 million in five months - is enough to loose the trust in your cause and make it seem like just another scam
good luck with it - could of picked a better beer though

I love the idea, I just want to know how you've managed 23000+ pageviews in 10 days?
My site has been alive the same amount of time and got about 180 views.

Posting your site up for review is a good way to get views, and I must note you haven't changed that much from our suggestions.

You have to hand it to the guy, we now have a debate going on, and so the site gets more hits! I'm not sure about spam but you can see the hype is selling advertising space.
Anyway, your site looks crap. But you got my hit, so you have what you wanted. I feel so used!

I don't take your site seriously. I sat there and hit refresh several times. Every time I hit refresh, the counter went up. This is like sooooooooo early 90's style of counting...
Why not use a counter like www.123stat.com which does a better job counting unique vists, and then you can even have an image on your page that shows a map with locations of your visitors. I see in your FAQ you say globat.com's stats are available to verify your count. Just lowered my opinion of them and I never heard of them before.
Also, why don't you format the number for easy reading, ie. 27,474
Now, to your defence, I will suggest that maybe you came up with the idea of your site, and as you got developing it more and more, then you came across similar sites and posted the links to them.
I didn't find any date saying when he'd like to get to one billion, just saw the thing about 5million in 5 months. Well even if you gave him 31 days every month, that is over 32,000 hist per day. So far you are roughly 391,000 hits behind schedule. Better get off the net and go get a job to pay for the beer. (or place a paperweight on the F5 key to keep it refreshing....)
-Greg
PS. Yes, it did occur to me that the reason the number was increasing everytime I hit refresh could be becasue someone else had visited the site. However, I doubt it as I can sit there and repeatedly hit refresh about 20 times and it increases each time, yet if I wait a minute or two and hit refresh, it still only increased one, suggesting you are not truely getting a hit every 5 seconds to make it appear that my theory is not correct.

Great idea...
I don't care for the yellow... too "spamish"
I'd like it better if ALL pages had a fixed width (or 100% width) and centered..
I'd put the counter in a more "goal oriented" box with a big header like
"can I reach my goal".

Hm sticks and stones!
Let me try and answer a few of these accusations!
The counter says page views! It counts how many times the page has been viewed. There is however a 5 minute cookie. So refreshing won't make the counter go up... unless you wait 5 minutes.
Globat is a good and reliable host!
I have been posting to various forums but only to generate further interest.
I do not force anyone to place an ad on the site.
I have generated $95 US so far towards the beer goal.
You are all really pissed off at me?
Why so much harted?

Try it properly!
There is a 5 minute cookie set, search through your cookies!
I have advertized to a lot of sites!
That is why the counter is moving , if it is moving.
Accusing people for no reason.

I appologise if anyone got insulted, but if you read back through this post it was more other people throwing jibes at me!
But anyways I appologise again to everyone if any of my replies were rude, I guess I just don't take well to being accused of being a cheat and so on...
It is all for a bit of fun. I hope if nothing else, my site made you laugh, at least for a second. I am sure Robbo and Wayne will be laughing with all that damn beer in their bellies.

No worries mate, I do appreciate the comments, it's just that I felt I was being unfairly accused of certain things! I did get a few constructive comments along the way though, which is helpfull. I moved the page to the left. I am thinking of placing an extract of my blog on the first page, below the ads. I am also thinking of various ways I can highlight the counter! Any other comments on the look and feel would be appreciated!
Anyways Cheers

Personally, I think the internet could use less spam. A better google rank for your advertisers just means another computer I am hired to clean.
If you want to gain my respect then clean up the site. Down-spam it.
Let me give you some places to start.
- Don’t use colors that contrast so much.
- Center the page
- Forget the google search
- Add rounded corners, make the elements for the page flow together or add more spacing.
Fix those and i'll have another list for you.

Well isn't the page centerd around the Ads? The whole reason that site is up is bacuase the ads. So eather put it out there or give it a new purpose.

This site came to mind, so I thought I would bump the thread
I can't seem to find any mention on the site of the orginal timeline listed as part of the bet... Hope they extended the deadline
BTW, the new look of the site is way better than the old one, just need to adjust it so in firefox you don't get the <?> (diamond with a question mark in it) symbol instead of the apostrphe. (If i remember right from another thread on here, it had to do with the charater set I think)

Looking at all the reviews, I don't think the site is the same as MillionDollarHomepage.com. You have a focus from the title of your site one billion page views infers that your goal is in page views not advertising revenue. That is what makes your site unique from the other pixel selling web sites. However, this site is stikingly similar: http://onebillionpageviews.com/
As for the design, it looks very professional and I personally like it. Good luck with the idea, but the site could be used for something a little more important than 1000 dollars worth of beer.

Just thought I'd give people another perspective on this.
I advertised one of my sites on That Aussie Blokes site when it was quite new. I liked his style, he made me laugh and the ad was cheap enough! Happy to say that the advert has more than paid for itself in that time.
Traffic is a not overwhelming, but it made a return which is more than can be said for a lot of sites / media that we advertise on.

i like this idea alot. glad to see there is still some creativity out there. i dunno how you got 1 million page views, but i would love to be able to get those numbers.
layout is pretty good but the ad space is very cluttered and hard to deceipher. you should space the adds or maybe some padding, heck even a border around the individual ads would be good i think.
other than a few minor things, its a good idea and i really do wish you the best of luck!

its a tad ugly and uninteresting for me.
I'm sure there are many sites that will have got to 1 billion views already
I think it's a no goer but then I am usually wrong about these things.
I even moaned about how stupid the title "Snakes on a Plane" was and how unsuccessful it will be.
