REVIEW REQUEST: munchtech

I got bored so decided to redo the munchtech site (never really liked it) was inspired by Taff's site posted not so long ago. So since it's a long weekend decided to change the layout.

new munchtech
old munchtech

I still have a couple of things to do, like make the image on the left to actually look like a puddle and change the link, there is only 3 pages.
I also have to compress the graphics if anyone knows of a good .gif optmizer - Can't make them .jpg as they are transparent.

[edit]Ok I have now spell checked, so if any spelling or grammer errors stick out at you ...[/edit]

Hey, it looks really good Laughing out loud I like the "fixed" image up at the top, how did you do that?

Just skimming through, I didn't find any spelling mistakes, which is a good thing.

Though, you have two HRs, under your plastic models site description, is the other one ment to be there?

I'm an inspiration now? That's a scary thought Laughing out loud

I find it looks a lot better, tighter, at 800x600. It kind of sprawls on the big screen. I've become a bit of a slave to fixed width tables for this reason.

I don't know how much bigger the site is going to get but you really should have some navigation options up top somewhere regardless.

The hr tags hug a little too close to the preceding tables for my liking. Perhaps add a break for more space?

Also maybe have your external links open new windows?

I use Ulead SmartSaver Pro for graphics optimizing. It works as a Photoshop plugin... well version 1.0 does anyway. I've never had any urge to upgrade and I'm pretty sure it never cost anywhere the $60 that v3.0 is selling for. There is a free trial though.

Since you mentioned proofreading:

"So I kept notes which people asked to see so made ezhtml" Confused

Renegade, the code for the fixed top is:
background-image: url("image.gif"); background-repeat:repeat-x; background-attachment: fixed;
works in all browsers I've tried except the fix isn't fixed in NS4.7, the repeat bit works but not with the fixed if that makes sense.

The two HR's are meant to be there, seperate my personal site and the others

Taff, I didn't fix it because it's done in it's own sections and hopefully people find the section (site) they want and go there. It's not really a portfolio, it's more of a gateway or doorway, whatever you want to call it. same reason for not having opening in new window.

I have no plans of making it bigger, but if I added a second page would add links at the top, but for now the second page "the past" is more of a "if your bored look at this" and the contact page, well all my sites have them (and there is a link to it on top). Only added "the past" page as the two link "home" and "contact" looked to lonely at the bottom lol

Thanks for the grammer pick up, so many ways I could change that sentence lol now reads "So I kept notes which people often asked to see, which lead to the making of ezhtml" I know the whole thing should be worded differently, something to do on a rainy day Smiling

The colours look pretty good and the layout is well set out. I actually prefer this lighter layout over the other darker one, much easier on the eyes. Nothing I can find that is wrong or out of place, nice job. BTW, that fixed square background is an excellent idea and adds a touch of uniqueness to your site. I might just take a look around...

Oh cool! I just noticed that a different image appears in the top picture when you reload the page. It took me a minute to figure that out. I thought to myself, "now I know you aren't crazy but that image didn't look like that a minute ago". Wink

Looks nice busy. Really my only complaint (not really a complaint but a color preference) is the images that are in the top thingy don't match the colors of your site and don't seem to fit the "feel" of the site. I don't have any suggestions though. Just thought I'd comment.

Since you aren't going to put nav links anywhere, have you thought about putting one of those drop down boxes with the links. Sort of a quick link thing? Maybe at the top right??

BTW, you have done an excellent job with EZHTML. Great site!!

Thanks, those images that change are something I made years ago (program called terrian - makes 3d landscapes) and have always wanted to use them. there are 9 images in total, I was only going to use one, the one with the water the same as the puddle (meant to be a puddle) colour. If you hold your mouse over the alt, the message kind of blends the image with the title/theme (kind of), well was hoping it would

drop down for just the munchtech site or for all the sites listed?
I don't like drop downs much as drop downs arent very accessible friendly (just displays a lump) but was thinking of making the names of the sites (in bold blue) links.

Thanks for the ezhtml comment, I'm hoping to get the updates finished soon but have been playing with update on the humour site and life gets in the way a little Wink the new update has more css and xhtml stuff, no fancy stuff, just stuff that works.

One of the things I'm not 100% happy with and I'm surprised no one has mentioned it, is the font (and even colour) of the top banner name thing.

Would welcome some newcomers comments, I don't bite - much Laughing out loud

The first thing I was looking for was a navbar of some sort too. Just put something there so people know that they're not missing anything.

You are aware of your writing problems so I won't comment on that. One idea for the logo would be to try to mix two fonts - this could be tricky, but you could use fonts to emphasize "munch" and "tech" as separate concepts brought together.

What's with that green blob on the left side???

the "green blob" is meant to be a puddle lol, or hopefully will be. Might have to copy one as they look like smudges or blobs Laughing out loud
It kind of had a meaning when I did it but doesnt look like anyone got it (my world dripping into the sites kind of thing) making it full height is to much, using a div messes up in IE6 and just ending looks broken, maybe if I turn the blob into a fish tank or something. I was going to fix it with the background but again IE6 ruined that.

So the top naviagtion is an issue, hmmm maybe if i just out "navigation at bottom" link at the top Wink
problem listing the site names (even in drop down) is one of the sites has a really long name "Busys mschat help and resource site" which I can't really shorten, maybe "mschat help" but the resource section is a big part of it.
maybe just have a random link of the day?

Puddle looks much more like a puddle now Smiling

I think it's nice, clean & fresh - just how I like my sites! Only thing I have to say is about the lack of navigation.

Puddle is better. But it still looks like a random blob from just-above-average distance. Might just be my eyes... :freak:

Ok I gave in, added some links to the top (and an extra page), where should the links go, middle or to the right?
home and past are in middle, links and contact are right.

I'm also playing with two fonts idea as Megan suggested but can't find two that go together well, so this may not happen.
