Hiya,

I've just started the design work for a client, and would love your opinions on the site. The preview is currently at:

http://www.phase8.com/letterlens

The content is just dummy text, and none of the links actually work as yet (nor does the search box)

But i'd just like your opnions on the general layout of the site, any problems you've experienced, colours, logo etc.

I think i've got it working on most mainstream browsers, but i'd love to know if you have any probs!

Thanks for your time.

Andy

Welcome to TWF Andy,

Nice to see another Brit here, how's Worcester today? Got any sun??

I really like this site and I think it all works really well. The only thing I would say is that the text runs right up to the right edge and that spoils the look a bit, pad it a bit to prevent that and cut down on the amount of text on the first page (I know it's only dummy text at the moment).

Fair point... looks much better now... Laughing out loud

Worcester's warm, but kinda cloudy (at least it's not raining!), every now and then, the sun comes out, but that just annoys me cos i have to keep shutting my blinds! (to cut out the glare on my monitor!!)

Overall this looks very nice. Nice, soothing colour scheme that works well with the subject matter.

I do have a problem with a few things on here though. The first is the graphic bullets you've used on the nav links. I don't think that colour works well with the rest of the scheme. I also think that the 3D effect and drop shadow are a little out of place as well. I would try more of a plain, flat-look bullet.

Actually, I think that both of those navbars could be reworked. The horizontal nav links look kind of fuzzy like that with the drop shadow and the colour on the vertical links doesn't seem to match the other shades of blue you've used.

Another thing is the orange accent colour. I'm not sure about that either. It might be a good idea just to go with the light shades of blue, possibly replacing the orange with a dark blue highlight.

Tee hee. Nice copy there Wink I think you got all the cheesy catch phrases in one paragraph!

Wow, great minds think alike Wink

Thats exactly how i did it originally, but the client wanted a few "changes", including the brighter bullets and drop shadows... scary.

Don't you just hate it when clients think they know best...???? Sad

The blue on the links is the closest hex colour i could find... (don't wanna use non-standard colours for text really) and i like the orange colour, i think it's important that its obvious when you mouse over a link...

The text comes from a dreamweaver extension called "corporate mumbo jumbo" it inserts dummy data into documents!

They also have celestialbabble which puts star-trek tech talk in:

If the inverting-core acceptor deflects the complex chronotron-feedback analysis, try to provoke a coil-composition reflex and several quantum biosphere resonances, this will create a restricted isovolumic cochrane graviton-prediction, which ought to in fact dampen the polarizing maintenance-filament formulas. Then attempt a minimum abstract component-delay correction phase to input a reversible lucifugal primary ionization perimeter operation to cancel the celestial info-sphere greenhouse effect Laughing out loud

Looks really nice. Are you going to add a rollover color to the links at the top?

Only thing I might add is a thin border around the brown eye pic at the bottom.

Nice work there andy!!Smiling

The website looks very nice. IMHO, the orange is a good accent color.

As disaster-master asked, I think that a roll-over effect is definitely needed for the top menu bar.

I'm not sure that the down-triangles on the left menu headers really look like they "belong." That's just my first reaction. Maybe they're OK.

Overall, great site!

I wonder if the triangles would look better if they were aligned with the bullet points?

Hiya,

The sites on its own domain now so i need to know whether you prefer the site layout like this:

http://www.letterlens.co.uk/index2.html (vertical)

or like this

http://www.letterlens.co.uk/index3.html (horizontal)

What do you think?

I prefer index3. On index2 for some reason at 800*600 for me the eye picture is overlapping the text 'Welcome To LetterLens'. It would be interesting to see it with the actual text for that page, if it's less than what is there now then index2 might be better??

thanx for the opinion.

I just spoke to the client on the phone (i can only speak to him direct on thursdays), and he prefers the horizontal version, so i guess i'm sticking with that...

I'll keep you all up-to-date on my progress so you can see the finished site in a few weeks!

Thanx!

Andy

I like the horizontal best as well. I am getting the overlap on the vertical one too.

Horizontal for sure. I also love the colors of the layout, mainly because blue is my favorite color and light blue my favorite shade. Keep up the good work and I'm anxious to see the finished site.
