Hi All

Im currently at the start of a personal project and would love some advice.

Please note ONLY the index page is currently working please do not venture out of the page as it might disrupt my coding.

http://www.highrez.com/index.php

Its going to be a kind of gettyimages type of thing but at no cost to the end user.
It will have albums, ratings, comments and much more when completed.

Please be lenient as this is one of my first design and build projects.

Thank you

Steve

Nice! I like it. Just a couple of things:

  1. Why is plain text changing on hover? (Opera doesn't like your stylesheet - probably has to do with having to :hover calls)
  2. Nit picky comment about font sizes. Try to make sure that all the text done in that decorative font are either exactly the same size or very different. The headers on the left sidebar seems to be slightly larger than the top navbar, but not enough to provide a strong contrast. Also, do the headers in the content area in teal instead of just white with a black outline - that way they will stand out more.
  3. Icons in the directory area should all be different (don't repeat any of them) Edit: you must be working on this as I'm reviewing here because when I reload the page some of them are changing!

Otherwise this is a good design. I think it's a good example of how to use a monocromatic scheme and a boxy layout without being too obvious about it. It's a nice balance and the photos and round icons do a good job of breaking things up. You've also done a good job of creating a fresh and bright look and feel.

Edit: Can we see this with a sans-serif body font? I'm thinking that the serif doesn't look bad at all, which is suprising because usually times just looks ugly. I'd like to see it in a sans though just to compare. Either way you should make sure that all your plain text is done in the same font.

I will have a fiddle with the headers I do agree with you.

I think it looks good. Smiling And a good idea too. I hesitate to comment because I already like it but I'm honostly not to crazy about the bird logo. I don't know if it's got some significance but I don't feel that the 2D 2-color cartoon bird would accurately represent the high-quality images that your site is all about. Another small thing is that there's a lot of wasted space in the light green area to the right side of the login. In general it looks good.

BTW, I never heard of gettyimages until you wrote that but I want to comment that your site has a clear purpose and objective stated clearly on the home page. gettyimages didn't so advantage to you.

Thank you Fifeclub

The bird logo is under review by me at this time and it may be changed soon. I have been thinking about the space at the side of the login box also. The only problem is when a user logs in that login box changes to a control panel which takes up more space and I'm worried about the clutter. Login and see what you think:

User: demo
Pass: demo

Also some sections have been created @

I think this is a really nice design and the colors are pleasing to the eye.

The only thing that I would like to comment on is the font that you are using for the text images. The font isn't bad I just think the letters look a wee bit crammed up being so small with that font.

You might also add some text links across the bottom of each page like so:

I agree with Mike on the fonky bird. Wink

I think I'm going to chuck the bird into something more fitting. Getting to many "not so sure's" about it.

Header Fonts
ATM I'm going to stick with what I've got at least until the launch, and then when I've got a little time I will maybe change it.

I shall be doing this later. I'm a search engine optimiser by trade and this is invaluable.

Thanks for all the great feedback.
