Welcome to TWF Steve,

Could you please review some of the other sites in the critique section as per the posting agreement.

Here's the direct link to the sports section.

I personally am not over keen on the bevelling, embossing and shadows, as to me they now look old & tired for graphics but they have been done well here.

There is a horizontal scrollbar at 800*600, making your margins 0 may resolve this.

Easy to navigate and puts the school across well I think Smiling

Text is too small - I'm finding it incredibly hard to read the text.

One of the first things I noticed when I looked at the sate was that it has no background colour so it just came up as rey (my browser default) you should set a background color for the page.

Another thing I noticed was that it was missing a design element, I can't quite put my finger on it but it's still missing something. :S

Just a comment on the "add free stats" add at the bottom, is there really a need for that?

BTW, I thought this school was in New Zealand, because we also have a "Herne bay high school" Laughing out loud

I definitely agree about the text! It's best to keep text sizes close to the default. This might require you to do something different with the three column layout, but that might be a good idea anyway.

About the bevelling and shadows - it doesn't look too bad IMO. You might want to make them smaller to make the effects more subtle. In most cases the filters have been set much too large for the objects they're applied to.

Otherwise I think this is a really nice looking site. The red and gold pack a lot of punch, and I like the way you've used curves in the header graphic.

Oh, one thing - you might want to make the lcoation of this school more clear. The address on the front page only says "Kent" - that's not very specific. The splash page should probably have some sort of information about where the school is located.

Hello.
I think the site look very good, i wear glasses, but even without them the text was ok for me to read, but that was because the background is white, so im not sure if you changed it since the first couple of replies..nice choice of colours.
Good luck with the site.

Site very fast loading and highly organized. Almost looks like an online magazine. The graphics are sharp as well.

Well well done.

very nice ... only thing as far as nit-picking would be that underlined text usually points to a link. I see you use dreamweaver, and you may want to add a few tags in your head. I know some se don't care about that anymore, but some do.

Set a bg colour. I've set my browser default bg colour to grey, so if you don't set a colour, my browser will do it for you, and it doesn't look nice. Wink

I didnt download the flash player so am not sure what I am missing, think it's something top center (hope it's nothing important).

It's a bit scary really, looking at those pictures of the school reminded me of school (that was 18 years ago), so you have that school look/feel down Laughing out loud
As mentioned above you need to add the country after Kent.

I'd like to introduce you to an HTML tag that you could find most useful, its the , on your site where you have things like: HBHS, you could use the tag like so: HBHS so when people place their mouse over the HBHS it will display like an alt tag description (like the title in links)
the reason I pointed this out is, you have 'The school has been busy working on a NOF project aimed at improving our indoor facilities' and I have no idea what a NOF is. Smiling

I like the colours of the layout (add that background colour) but the yellow text and links are confusing (could be), the 'home', 'sports facilities & tour' etc are the links but are same colour as the headings, so maybe change the colour of one of them, if blue is part of the school colour (like in the logo), could work.

you might want to have a look at your email link (a couple to many mailto:'s), also on the partnership schools page

i like a moron kept clicking the text not the picture. I like text to be hyperlinked. i think the dancing man in the blue circle is not effective when reduced to a small size. just looks like asain letter or something. -josh
