Review Request: Flame Design
Hello everyone,
I am new to the forum and would like to start out by getting cretiques and comments on my design firm's new image ie. logo, and web site.
All comments are welcome... and you can't hurt my feelings, how else would I improve if I had an ego?
very best regards,
anthony

Thanks

Edited thread title as per posting agreement.
I like the basic concept and the logo here but I feel that the design is rather boring in comparison. I mean, it looks nice but it doesn't really tie into the logo and business name concept. With a name like flame, and a logo like that, you could easily get away with a more creative, less corporate looking design.

hey megan,
Do you have any ideas as to what may make it better? Any design tips?

I would really like to see this with a red or orange base colour rather than (yawn) navy blue. Those little icons next to the text listings on the front page could also be redone with some sort of flame motif (or a repeat of the logo symbol). Do similar things with the icons on other pages (the little red arrow one that appears in other areas could be changed to a flame instead).
While I'm looking at the front page, the main content here is really low down on the page. You should consider removing that big graphic and bumping the text up. The meaning of that graphic wasn't immediately obvious anyway.
I also really like that horse blowing flame in the logo. I notice that the flame parts have been used in the header area, but you could try to incorporate the horse's mouth there as well. OR! Have the horse blowing flames into the content area. Sort of like the content is coming out of the flames. That requires a much bigger modification but it would be a really cool concept to try. Another idea would be to put a grey flame shape (or the logo shape) faded out in the background. Just to add some impact.
Do you have some dHTML or something happening on that navbar? Once in awhile when I mouse over it I get a grey box popping up over the content. On the "print" page in paritular (using Opera 7). Okay, it's coming up when I mouseover "print" and "advertising". Oh, I see, that's all one image and you're using a map for the mouseover effects. Check your JS. in IE I don't see a grey box but it's taking a long time for the mouseovers to start working. Could be a problem with the preloader (or lack of preloader?)
Welcome to the forums BTW. Stop by the Introductions forum and let us know a little more about yourself.

I agree with Megan that the logo is great, but I'm sure it's a dragon not a horse. I would follow the flame idea more and as a design studio you could certainly afford to be more creative with the design/layout rather than conservative & corporate.
At 800*600 in IE6 I get a small horizontal scrollbar, which is due to your table being 779 in width and the most you can get away with is 770. I would get rid of the petrol can as I don't think it really works and it means that visitors immediately have to scroll to see anything of importance.
On your portfolio page you really should have the client sites opening up in a new browser window. On the print page the picture is on the right whereas on all the other pages it is on the left, I'd keep them all the same side.
Nice site though

The logo is good but in my eyes the effect would be much better with color. Very good design!
