REVIEW REQUEST: Era Creations
Hello. I run a game modding website called Era Creations. I have been working on a few layouts the last couple of weeks. I have 3 so far.
Fantasy #1: Warcraft Orc
Fantasy #2: Warcraft Nightelf Sci Fi #1: Starcraft Terran
The first one I'm thinking of using. Comments?

Firstly, could you please help out some of the other members who have posted their site in the forum for critique please.
They all look pretty similar and definitely look like gaming sites (why are they always so dark??!!) I quite like the colours you have on #1 but I prefer the border on #3 but would pad the let side a bit more so that the text isn't so hard up against the browser wall.
Julia - if life was meant to be easy Michael Angelo would have painted the floor....

I like 1 better than 2. Personally, I think it's more Warcraft-ish.
But given a choice between WC and SC, SC wins.
My final vote is for #3 -- Starcraft.

I think the warcraft page has way too much text on there, maybe you could add a few pictures and also decrease font sizes by one. The otop menu is hard to read with it's background.
Overall, I think they look a little unorganized. Maybe add a little cellpadding to the tables so the menu for example is not all the way to the left. Also I would decrease font sizes by 1 on all 3 pages.

This is just my opinion but I think the textured borders that you have on all of them are a bit outdated. If I had to choose between the three, I would say go with #3. but you should at least put a solid color background behind the links at the top. They will be easier to read.

Yeah I took them down. I decided to take them all and intergrade them with each other. Take a look.

Alrighty, what's with that redirect stuff from the home page to the news page? I don't think I would do that. At first I thought I was going crazy and had forgotten that I clicked a link. WHEW!! Now that the home page is in my cache, I am unable to read the home page because it almost immediately redirects to news.
The image at the top is a little big. It hogs your screen space and takes too long to load (on a dial up). The image doesn't match the graphics that you are using on the rest of the page either. It sorta looks like parts of two seperate designs.
Not sure I like the blue text on black bg. Doesn't look awful---just isn't what I would pick.

I agree that the top banner part is too big, overpowers the screen way too much at 800*600 and where it is all so dark it just looks like a blank space for a lot of it. I also agree that the redirect is annoying and it only makes you want to go back and read what's on the home page, why have it if you don't want people there?? The blue text isn't too bad but I just think the site is too dark in general, I know its a gaming site but why do they all have to be black??!!

That image is overpowering even on 1024*768.
I don't like the mixed fonts for the nav, even though they are game titles.
The globe image on the nav is a little low-quality and blurry.
The link fonts on the nav are perhaps too thick. It look like you're using Arial Black or something. Try just Arial.
Same reason most corporate sites are white. It's just a theme-trend.

Ok I'll try out some of the suggestions and see how it looks. And the reason the main page redirects is due to the script I'm using. It does not display the news on the front page so we had to add a script to redirect it to the page. I'm using IonPanel, it's similar to PHPNuke expect it's ALOT easier to install.

hey, stop stereotyping!
As for the layout, i suggest you do some optimizing to make your layout user friendly. Im on a 56k modem and your layout took a while to load.
By the time your layout loaded the site automaticly redirected me to somewhere else so i was clueless to know what was on your index page.
You should get rid of the redirecting because your visitors would be capable of clicking on the links if they wanted the news now would they?
I like the logo!
