Hello again boys and girls!

Right, heres another site ive been working on. Its for my best mate who's a mobile party DJ. His brief was "make me something fresh and funky"

So thats what i've attempted to do. The site is still in development as I'm waiting for some of the content, so thats why some of the pages are a bit empty, but i'd like some opinions on the overall look and feel of the site.

Do you reckon the site fits the brief?

Oh, the URL is http://www.djrich.co.uk/index.php

Thaaaaaaaaaaaaaanks!

i absolutley love the header, is that actually a picture of him?

overall though it looks like a template, however it is very fresh, loads very fast and is very easy to use.

btw if people want him as a dj they aren't really gonna want to see his family cristening photos.

I think it is cute as a button. Wink

A few things that I would recommend.

Increase the font size. Since there really isn't much text on the pages, an increase in font size would help to fill space a wee bit as well as make it easier to read. I am not a big fan of the arial font but it doesn't look bad.

Not sure the background fits the theme.

Add a set of text links to the bottom of the page.

It wouldn't be a hard task to validate this site.

Nice work so far.

lol... no the header pic is off photodisc or something... its not that disimilar though. The christening pics are actually my family, i just put them up as an example while i was testing the script, they'll be coming off when we get some pics from his gigs.

(BTW.... this pic is me!)

The background changes depending on the time of day (sun in the day and stars n moons at night), your right though, it doesnt really fit in with the site, i might change it to a blank colour or something.

Theres more text on the way, so i think the font size will fit ok.

I take it your a bit of a standards nut then sonia? Wink If it makes you feel better, I'll run it through the validator and see how much work it'll take to fix.

Thanks!

Andy

Maybe just a little. Wink I am still learning myself. It is really gratifying to validate a site. Plus you will thank yourself in the future for doing so.

One thing that I learned (the hard way and to much disappointment) is just because a site validates doesn't mean that it is going to display properly in all browsers so make sure you check that too. I don't think you will have any problems with that site though. (haven't looked yet)

Congrats and validate your heart out. Laughing out loud

first of all vauxhalls suck! the only thing they are good for is mini cooper engine swaps. lose the guestbook its too teenage. i would lose the links too. the contact page, that whole sex field is just wrong. also why have a "get a quote" and a contact page. Ideally they would be contacting him to "get a quote." combine that into one page. on the location page, no one cares where he lives, they want to know where he services ie does he go to sussex or dunglaw or whatever. -Josh

i agree that interview with him makes his sound like a complete idiot, i.e. omega, i.e. waving glowsticks with mate. doesn't sound proffesional at all.

I really don't think we should be critising his choice of car or anything else personal boys!! and really what he wants on the site is up to him.

I like the design, it is fresh & funky but I would have probably gone for different colours but that's a personal thing I guess. I agree that the background doesn't really go, a plain colour would be better. Also, for some reason, I expected the links to actually move as a rollover, kind of like shift position or something, don;t know really obviously having a funny 5!

Good job I say and I think the quirky little things like the gender options make this lighthearted and give an insight into the type of DJ he is and I think the get a quote is very appropriate to have as a separate links to the contact form, it's actually nice to be able to go to a site like this and find out roughly how much it would cost rather than having to wait for a reply by email.

I see where your coming from, but i was trying to show a dj rather than say its him... I might do a bit of photoshopping and put his pic on in the future.

Oi! I drive a vauxhall corsa... anyway, i didnt ask for comments on content. The guestbook is there with the intention of getting comments from existing customers. The links page will be relevent links swapped with other sites, with the idea being to increase his ranking in google. The location page *is* relevent, as the majority of DJ's to most of their work in the local area. We're hoping people searching for things like "party dj in worcestershire" and find his site.

Thats my best mate your talking about... Wink I've already said, that the site is still in development. We're probably going to be changing that page so its more like a cv of djing, its just placeholder text while we get the rest of the site sorted.

I like it too. Breezy, irreverent, nice use of JavaScript rollovers (about the nicest I've seen, actually), attractive, to the point, simple navigation, nice map, text links at bottom... Good job!

at the end of the day content is more important than whether you have a blue or blue/green background. vauxhalls crappiness aside, everything i suggested would make the site more professional. -Josh

and the problem with outside links is once a customer leaves, they may never come back. keep them at your site as long as possible.-Josh

i dont like how the gallery photos load in a new window, why not use thumbnails on that gallery page and have the larger file open in a new window instead? -Josh

thats what i had planned... unfortunatly the script that powers the gallery doesnt work quite how i'd hoped, but i'm looking into changing that though.

The background colour and the content area colour clash some what, maybe darken one of them up a little.
You need to fix that gallery link (as you mentioned you would), people dislike new windows opening up
On the guestbook page you have two links for sign, what about view? If the guestbook is for clients etc, maybe instead just have a page with referrers or quotes like "he the man, he played all the hip tunes on the round tableturn thing" from bob the builder, frogville.

Overall it's pretty good just have to develop the content and try seperate the personal site from the business sides

Agreed. You've gotten some good content advice here, so it'd be good to consider it a free bonus. Smiling

Speaking of content, the site has an odd mix of first- and third-person. When I click on "About Me", I expect to read something in the first person ("I am this, I am that") rather than third person ("He is this, he is that").
