Hi,

This is one of my sites that I do with my friend and it tells people about my favourite football(soccer) team, Crewe Alexandra. The site we have done so far was part of our GCSE Coursework and we got top marks. The main goal of the site is to use it as a reference that I can put on my CV. The site shows what I'm capable of when it comes to graphical design. It also shows some product-projects, but only the final output without much explanation about it.

I would like to hear your comments about the website design although it is in its early stages and would be grateful for any feedback.

Whoah! That's bright! I personally would choose something less shocking for the main colour. Something like that could be okay in small doses but as a prime colour it's a little overwhelming.

I definitely think that something more interesting needs to be done with the logo. Add a symbol or a more interesting font or something to spice it up. Also add a photo or some sort of graphic to the front page so people can get an immediate impression of what this site is about. You need to develop more of a theme here.

I'm assuming the "Crewe Alex Fanzone" is the logo and the CM central banner at the top has to do with something else. If that isn't the case, and the CM central bit is intended to be the logo, the design should be built around that graphic, not independently of it. That CM central logo needs work as well but I think we've discussed that already.

That isn't the actual banner and it was just put up as a test really to see how and whether it would appear.

I will consider changing the colours to something a bit more subtle and maybe use less of the red!

Firstly everything is too big. At 800*600 you see nothing but banners really above the fold and the CM Central isn't even a link. The first thing that should be at the top of the page is your header/logo which should be much more interesting than just plain big html text, try finding a nice footbally (soccar for those not in UK) font and make a logo in a graphics program.

I take it the red & white are the team colours? Use a navy blue as an accent colour rather than the bright blue you have for underlining links, it will look much better. Maybe make your side headers as graphics in the same font you choose for the logo but smaller to fit the side box.

Yeh Red & White are the team colours...that is why they have been used.

I think that maybe a dropdown menu would look better than the current navigation. What do you guys think???

A dhtml drop down you mean? That would be good if you can get it to work. IME those things are generally a pain in the bum.

If you have to go with red & white as the team colours, it might be a better idea to base everything on white and just use red as an accent colour, like for logo and header text. I'm assuming that the team uses that particular shade of red as their team colour.... (it would be nice if you could just change that to a darker shade...)

It depends what you mean by drop down and where you are planning to put it. At the moment the site is just boxes so maybe try to get more of a layout going with a theme and incorporate the colours and logo into that.

It looks like it has been made with just CSS, very boxy with big font and very plain. you need more of a theme going.
There is a horziontal scroll bar at 800x600, had a look at your source code (which is way to big to fit in note pad), noticed a few problems:
your tags are all out of order, you have a html tag, table and iframe tags then head tag ....
your contents don't show up because you have your C drive path on them:

You didn't answer Busy's questions, what did you (or your friend) use to create the site and does it have to be built using only CSS? Get those images changed, have a go at making some of the alterations suggested here and we'll look at it again for you.

Regarding the colours, I had a look at the official Crewe Alexandra site (http://www.crewealex.net) and they use a slightly darker red, which is a little easier on the eye.

My friend used Publisher to make it and no it doesn't have to be built using only CSS (whatever that is).

Yeh I will change the images and colours etc!

If you are serious about carrying on with website design then I suggest you stop using publisher, read up on coding properly and learn CSS (cascading style sheets).

WOW! What big letters. Laughing out loud

I think you have too much stuff at the top. First there are the adds, then an image of something....looks like some people playing a game of some type. Then there is that "knock you back in your chair" header that says "Crewe Alex Fanzone". You should consider lightening the load at the top and moving your important content up.

I am not crazy about all of the boxes. If you are going to use them, at least narrow the borders around them.

You need to get yourself some rollover colors for the navigation too.

Cheers,
Sonia
