Hi

I have setup a new website that has been running for about 2 weeks now.
I am fairly happy with it but always open to suggestions.

Colour / Navigation / Google ads / Content

Ideas?

Bournemouth Pride

Thanks

I personally don't like the black background as I think it makes the site look dull with the grey of the content boxes, couldn't you come up with a more cheerful colour scheme?

I think the layout is a bit clumsy & disjointed. To me it looks like you have two header/logo sections and you've forgotten to take one off. Either have the top section with the nav (my preference) or the one underneath, not both as they take up too much room and push the content too far down the page.

The problem with using the rounded off boxes is that they don't sit well together and that is adding to the disjointed look IMO. On the smaller pages, like Pride 2004, it looks odd where there is such a big gap between content and footer and having to scroll down even on a higher resolution.

To me the text on the drop down menu is fuzzy, but that might just be my eyesight! Also the text on the Pride History page is defaulting to TNR.

Easy to navigate and overall good content but to me it just needs to be more gay.

I am going to have to agree, didnt like the black or the entire color scheme may need some changing. The double banner/logo thing is a minor problem however it is uneeded. Overall the site has a good start, it just needs some work to help it get the attention it deserves.

hmm

Thanks for the comments so far

I have made a few changes to the site since your comments.

The grey on black text boxes have stayed. I may try some more colourful alternatives. Don't want to be too gay!! hehe

I can't see any changes, still the wrong colour IMO and still two header sections on the main page?

teammatt3, there are no dodgy/pornographic photos, nothing to be afraid of at all Smiling

I think it looks alright. I like the layout, though the color scheme does need some adjusting

The black background is the websites biggest design flaw, It looks well made though!

I don't entirely agree with the others about the colours. The black is okay. That brown is no good though. Get rid of that. I like the rainbow along the top. I actually think that the black background goes well with that and I don't think the effect would be the same with a lighter background.

I like what you've done with the top header area, putting the rainbow over top of the photos. Those images could be better quality but the effect is good and very appropriate for the site. I do think that the logo could use some work. Try making it a little bigger and doing something different with the font. I like the drop-down menus here (and they work in my browser!) but the font size is a little small to read comfortably.

Not much else to say. Just resist the urge to put everything in a box. In addition to the brown backgrounds I think there are two many border lines cutting up the page and it's distracting attention from the good stuff.

I just want to mention the mismatch in design on some pages (keep it all the same design), and the framed page (no need for the frames) and the redirect ?? (feels like I was taken to another site)
There is also that animated gif on the index that goes through the images real fast, distracting fast.

Thanks for the cool comments and suggestions.

I will make a few of the changes but sticking with the black background for now.

The framed page was the gallery, it no longer uses frames. It is a PHP gallery installed at bournemouthpride.com/gallery/
I am trying to change the way it re-directs
