Hi board,
Just found this forum on Google today.
Anyway I'm thinking of an overhaul for
my site and want to know what I'm doing wrong
and right so not to make the same mistakes again.
So if anyone could give me a bit of feedback that would
be great.

Thanks in advance

We do ask that before you ask for a critique of your own site that you help out the others here and review their sites, this not only helps them but will also give you ideas for your own site. Once you have reviewed some of the others I'm sure you'll get lots of help with yours.

I'll have a look at your site in a bit.

My first impression is that there is *a lot* of text on here. It's really hard to decide what to read first. I would try to reduce the amount of text as much as possible, and try to keep the formatting more consistent. Keep the flow of elements logical and reduce the number of dividers. I understand now that all those red headers are article titles, but the list of titles is broken up several times by horizontal rules and other types of content. It tends to be rather confusing.

Is it necessary to include all the individual links on every page? Won't that get increasingly messy as the site grows? Would a simplified, top-level only navbar work just as well? (i.e. use "Search Engines", "Reciprocal links", "Autoresponders" etc. as headers and link to pages with lists of the articles in those sections). It would also help if you kept those sub-links aligned to the left rather than centered.

Another major problem with this design is that the logo is not at all distinctive or memorable. That definitely needs to be re-done.

I am also seeing some problems with writing style as I skim over some of these articles but I won't get into that right now.

As Megan says, there is way too much text on here and the page is just too confusing. To me it looks like the top's been chopped off where a logo/banner should be. You also have too many different fonts and text sizes going on which is just adding to the confused look. I would also add a 'Back to Top' link at the bottom of all your pages as at the moment there is a lot of scrolling to be done!

Definatley need a logo. And in the middle (the body part) I would put an interesting image, logo or other graphic there instead of immediately starting with the text at the top. That would give the pages some personality. Wink

As for the many links that you have, they are really ok in my opinion as they are now but like the others said, it the site grows, it could get sorta crowded.

I think there are too many different font types, sizes, and colors. You should probably limit the overall theme to 2 or 3 different types.
