Review Request : 50LEAVES V3.0
Well this is basically the 3rd version of this site in as many months, but I reckon this time we've hit the nail on the head with the design. Let me know opinions on everything, barring the code because i'm already onto that.
There's a few Firefox issues to iron out too...
Cheers.

Being a user of Firefox, I thought I would stop by and check out your site...
I kinda like the feel of the site. It looks little "homegrown" giving it that personal touch - pretty cool. And you kept that theme comsist throughout the site.
I think at the bottom left of the index page is supposed to be a link to be able to bookmark your site. Doesn't look like that is functioning.
Good luck with the band. Plan on putting some of thier music up on thier site, or did I miss that?

Thanks for the review mate, yep theres a few problems in Firefox so far, still trying to fix em.
The music is in the media section, 'The Tunes'.
The bookmark thing only works in IE at the mo, so trying to find a better script for it.
Cheers!

Over 120kb of images on that first page, bit slow in loading on dialup.
The text and links are confusing as your using the same colours for both (yellow and white), you have to go hunting for the text links.
Displayed the same in firebird as it did in opera, no display problems that jump out.

yeah, we tested it on 56k and it was acceptable to me anyway.
no-one's complained about the links being confusing, as the links are where you'd expect them to be, for example 'click here to' etc or they are bold too.
Cheers for feedback.

Really nice looking site, Davey. Really great concpet and well co-ordinated design. The graphics are excellent. I really like the scribbley things around the borders.
What I don't like are the mouseovers on the navbar. Putting an "x" over the text just obscures it so you can't read it anymore! Try just changing the colour to the yellow/tan instead.
As I navigate the site, I'm finding more interesting things to see. I like the way you've set up the "band" page with the scattered graphic links. It makes it more of an exploratory experience.
Normally I would complain about small text here but I think your target audience would prefer it this way.
I always like to listen to the music when band sites come up. That's the best way of knowing if the design is suitalbe or not. Good job in describing the band in a visual way.

Cheers Megan
I dont really think 11 pixel verdana is small exactly, and its sexier looking than 12 px too
I like the mouseovers, even though they might be impractical haha.

Well the design seem to suit a band site. It's not unexpected but there's enough originality there to make it interesting.
I have to agree with with Megan... the X on the mouseover links doesn't really do anything for them.
It is also quite a bit annoying for me to have to scroll my mouse over a picture (image map) to find where the links are. You don't try to hide them like so many sites do, but it is really easy to make links in an image map have a mouseover state so they're more obvious.
The only other comment is it would be nice for you to work the forum into the main site. You could "frame" it in the same page design as the rest of the site and make it seem part of the same site.
Good job on this so far! I think there's still room for improvement though.
gotta finish redesigning my sites so I can show them again.

cheers for the reply, the image mapped links are easy enough to see where they are and where they are gonna go to, you'd have to be pretty silly to not know really
The X's are staying too, asked the frontman of the band about em and he wants them, so ya know...
Thanks.

ah yeah and the forum thing, its a networked forum, because its easier to get people onto it that way and there is only so much customising you can do with it. Also, we like the idea of having it open in a new window, so you can view the site content and the forum at the same time.

all of it, sorry if my reply sounded moody, was mid-row with my bird lol.
Everyone's made valid points, it's pretty much finished though, nice to know what people think.
Thanks again

I agree about the rollovers, otherwise, this design rocks! Hey maybe for rollover effect have a piece of tape underneath the text onmouseover? Or how about the tape over the whole word (s) but with opacity reduced enough so that you get the effect, but can still read the words?
