Review Request : 10XDesign.get.to
Hi,
I'm new to the forums but I recently designed a web site... http://10XDesign.get.to/. I tried a new look and was wondering what other web masters thought of it...

We could have handled that better...

Geez I can't believe you have to critique websites just to get one critiqued for yourself. This is my first time here, so I guess there's a good reason I just don't see it yet.
So.. am I allowed to critique this?

Actually, it's semi-optional here. I know of several other forums that force you to review other sites. I mean, your thread doesn't even show up until you've done your three reviews and the moderators have checked it and release your thread from the system.
And think of it from our perspective - you show up wanting free advice from us. What are you giving back? Nothing? Come on, the least you could do is give something back and review a few other sites This and any forum depends on give AND take. Nobody likes it much when people show up just to take. In fact, that could be said of relationships in general.
This is optional here, but you have to recongize that you get back what you put in. If you don't want to do three reviews, that's fine, just remember that you might not get as much feedback from others.

Well what if you don't know enough to critique a website?

Surely you shouldn't be designing one then? If you are having problems getting started we can definately help - no critique of other sites necessary.
Sarcasm aside: Anyone is qualified to critique a website: Just say what you like, what you don't like and what could be improved. I regularly ask for critique from one of my friends, she knows nothing about building web sites, but she's got a good eye for colour and knows what to expect.

Most users don't know anything about designing websites, but they have to use them daily. Often the best critique and input comes from a real user. They are a valuable asset until they learn too much -- then they are competition!

All I get is a blank page and a pop-behind for eBay!

lets see here... the welcome page is a bit obscure with the nature as a framed background and a centralized logo that really doesnt go all to well with the trees. but after entering the page is quite original, having black as teh background. the longer i looked at it the more accustomed i was, but then the music file started playing..haha it was really strange... but over all id have to give it a plus for creativity and originality. (the flash is good)

It worked this time!
I don't particularly like the splash page and I don't really see the need for it, plus you aren't doing yourself any favours as far as search engines are concerned either as there is nothing for them to crawl. If you have to have it then make it sit right at the top and fit 800*600 as a lot of people still use that resolution.
Again once into the site it is ok if you like flash! This also needs to fit 800*600 as I'm sure a lot of businesses, who you are obviously aiming this site towards, will use smaller monitors - they certainly do here anyway. I would say that you need to do an alternative html site for those who don't like/use flash and the search engines.
The site does have quite a nice feel to it but those arrows are just tacky and really spoil the site IMO.
ps. get rid of the pop-ups, they just aren't professional for a webdesign site to be having.

I'm sorry for being so blunt, but I found this website totally dull and boring
The opening page gave me no idea what it was all about and I am still wondering.
Some of the effects were alright but the whole website could be much brighter and inviting, I left feeling cold and depressed
I'll be back
