I think this looks good except that the navigation menu is much, much too small. I didn't even recognize it as a navbar when I first glanced over the page. I also think that the top header graphic (the orangey-yellow part) could stand to be a bit bigger/wider just to make more of an immpact. And you should definitely change the title on the graphic there to the name of your site
Another thing, more related to the forums set-up, is that I thinkt here's too much scrolling on the front page there. I would try to reduce the padding a little bit around the forum descriptions and maybe reduce some of the space between categories. That would just make it easier on the visitor.
Are you using PHP for the date stamp? if so, don't, use JavaScript, PHP will give the time of the server its on, not the real time, example it says "The time now is September 29, 2002" for me today is the 30th. should also be "the date is ..."
The copyright at the bottom is very hard to read, at first i thought it was hidden key words. also the "mark all topics read" is a little hard to read
Looks very console like, very gamey, looks good, shame you have to have the banners thou.

I didn't notice the menu until I read Megan's post, so you should make that bigger and so that it stands out more. I would also put a little space below both banners, they're both glued to the images below them. Other than that, it looks very good.

maybe its just me, but i dont like all the gray, it doesnt look bad, im just saying that it seems a bit dark to me.
the text on the menu is too small for some people to see.
other than that the only problem is the lack of people registered for it.
(and there is a section for the genesis but not one for SNES?!?!)
anyone can do any amount of work provided it isnt the work they are supposed to be doing.

Only thing I can pick on is the forum nav text is too small on high resolutions. My guess is most gamers, like myself, would use a higher resolution - 1024x768 or more. Any chance that you can enlarge them?
Nice work.

I'm not normally one for dark sites (!!) but this does suit the content very well and it is nicely done, however I agree with the menu and date/time issue - do you really need that anyway? Also, so you have to have that banner in between the menu and the login? IMO it really detracts from the rest of the site.

Like most said, the navigation is too small to read. And it's not because of a high resolution. I'm on an 800x600 and it's still to small. The text on the top graphic (the logo) could be a little clearer. I agree with The Webmistress about that banner between the menu and login. Very distracting. I think you should put the banner above the the menu and make the menu larger, it'd be a lot better . I also agree with Busy on how the copyright text is very small, dark, and hard to read. For some reason the website won't let you change text size in IE (view>text size). Otherwise it's a nice site
oh.......could even be white text on your grey preference. the eyes 'muscles' are working a little hard to read because of color similarity.

Otherwise, a nice implementation

very nice.
one thing. the background and text is too similar. my eyes hurt when reading. i would fade the grey a little and use black texts.
