ACleverPenny.com

I have tried this type of site before with very little success, but wanted to give it one more go.

The entire site consists of only 10 pages and I have scaled back on retailers - just sticking with the most popular for easier maintenance and faster loading times. Also got rid of all animated gifs and changed domain names.

All comments and suggestions very welcome.

Thank you,
Deborah

Not bad Deborah. Smiling

However...(you knew that was coming didn' you...LOL)

Seems like there is a wee bit much purple. Not sure what but something needs to have some brighter colors or change some of those shade of purple to another color. Maybe just to logo will do it. Also, the light purple rollovers for the links on the left may look better white. (just a few ideas rolling around in my head)

And I just highlighted this at the top --"Shopping Coupons, Bargains and Deals for the Internet's Leading Retailers" and it changes it to dark blue when you do that. Looks better blue IMO. The gray just doesn't stand out enough.

Other than that, I think it looks good. Remember though, those are opinions. Wink

I agree with every thing sonia said. It's like my site, I went a little crazy and I overused orange. Just experiment and change a few colours.. Purple is a little overused..

Other then that, I think you have done a terrific job and you should keep up the great work!

I agree about the left hand links changing to white on rollover and the grey for the right hand bit at the top but I like the purple and think with the white background it's fine as it is! Wink

I don't mind the purple at all, but I think this all has to do with personal preference. I think people tend to have strong feelings about that colour - either you love it or hate it!

One idea might be to do the sidebar on each page to match the colour of it's tab in the navbar. So A-F would be blue, G-O would be green etc. Although I would try to refine those colours just a little bit before going ahead with that. They just don't seem to be working quite right together at this point. The orange for "outlet stores" is particularly out of place.

I notice that you're listing shipping rates in here, which is a good idea. However, I know that most e-commerce sites have different rates for "international" orders. Maybe you could list the US or national rate as well as the "international" rate - it would be really helpful to those of us outside the US.

It would also be really nice if you indicated where they do and do not ship from - as an "international" user, shopping online can be very frustrating. Many sites will not ship outside the US and most of them don't even say so up front. You should also note somewhere that all prices are in US dollars (I'm assuming that's what they are...)

Otherwise there's not much to say about the site. I feel that it looks good and functions well. One idea would be to organize the coupons by category as well as alphabetically.

If anyone's looking for a site idea - I'd really like to see a shopping directory for people outside the US. Maybe I would do more online shopping if there was an easy way of finding out if the retailer will sell to me!

I'm ok with the purple in the layout, the mouse overs at the left are a bit pink thou.
great job on layout and design

This coupon thing sounds like fun lol, i had a look thru and even thou I've never heard of half the things being offered could be fun to do and save some money. But like Megan mentioned, its not worth the hassle of trying to find out if they ship overseas, esp to NZ

Nice website... simple easy to navigate, but does the web really need another shopping portal?

If i was you, i'd align the bulleted list on the left hand side to the left, or remove the bullets, as it looks a bit scruffy at the moment!

From a developers point of view, that site is going to become very hard to manage, very quickly. Have you thought about using a database backend...? it would make your life sooooo much easier.

I also don't really mind the purple. It's not my favority color, but I don't think it's overpowering.

My only suggestion is regarding the left menu bar. It looks rather plain and boring right now. I think that using white for the rollovers like disaster-master said would be good, as well as left-aligning the items as andy said. Also a little more spacing between the items could improve it. Maybe even a border around the items?
