I would like a review of my site at http://www.jediliz.net
Please keep in mind that I am currently working on getting some content added to my site.
(I'm trying to get a penpal script so people can find star wars pen pals).

Hi,

1) I clicked to go to the quiz and then viewed source - you list the correct answers in the source code! I think that will influence how people go in your quiz! If you have access to the cgi-bin I'd suggest using a script like surveysays...

2) The bottom three graphics are out of alignment (two are centered and one is left aligned) -I'd centre them.

3) Your title is pretty boring - I'd suggest making something fancier...

4) You jump between serif and non-serif fonts for your body text- I'd recommend you pick one or the other and stick with it. I'd recommend verdana

5)When I go to the recommend a page page, I lose the navigation and the style of layout changes - you need the same style here as the rest of the site.

6) On the contact page, I'd put the form in a table so that you can better align the input boxes.

Hope some of the above helps

Well, I will look for a different script. I could not find a decent test/quiz script that would allow me to have my consistent layout without doing frames (I dislike frames and refuse to use them). I'll also look for a different script for my recommendation script and work on those other suggestions.

Since I have no clue about cgi, is there a way to customize Surveysays to be a quiz?

surveysays is pretty easy peasy - you'll find it at cgi scrips - http://www.cgiscripts.net

You don't need to use frames It is a very compact loking script and you can more than one on a page, each with unlimited questions.

You can see an example I did at:
http://www.nationjunior.net/njsaturday/njsaturdaynew.shtml
(bear in mind I bear no responsibility for the content on that particular site!!!:0)

You do need to be avle to use server side includes though.

Cheers

I good basic start. It could use more work though. Its very bland. Maybe some colors that are starwarsy. Darker not lighter.

Also, the bottom three graphics could be integrated better. Try using some tables. Separate into columns and content areas.

Try looking at other sites people in these forums have. I suggest, if your still learning, to look at their source(don't just steal it) and see HOW they do everything. They usually use a bunch of nested tables etc. They can be tricky to align etc. so looking at their source can give you an idea of how to work through problems. I think organization can make the difference rather than content. I don't really care if sites have content if the content looks horrible.

I'd really prefer to stay with my colors I have for right now, since I think they fit for the moment. When I get some content added, I'll consider changing the color.
I used promotionworld.com's navigation as a model, but didn't copy their whole navigation. It was easy for me to provide a consistent layout now, then it was before.

I'll keep at it.

I hate saying this, but it's just as bad as the last time I reviewed it...

1) The logo is very boring. You need to make it Star Wars worthy!

2) The whole site is very square looking. There are no curves or circles or anything.

3) The main content are is just text. 100% text. Very boring and bland.

4) The navigation is not the best. Sure, you can use drop-down menus at the bottom of the page, so that the user doesn't have to scroll up, but for the main navigation it's not good. Create some cool buttons or something.

I really dislike...

Just for the record: I am NOT a professional!!!!
I am using a Star Wars font for the logo.

I don't know how to do curves and circles and I don't want to do that anyway. It would probably require a software program that I can not afford, anyway. I am doing my best with what I have.

I would have had this looking totally different but the person that was going to do my design for me, for free, hadn't contacted me for several weeks and I had to do it myself.

What is wrong with text? I don't think there is anything wrong with it.
I am doing my best, but it doesn't help when people don't give helpful suggestions.

Such as: tell me where I can learn to create curves and circles. Tell me how I can improve my logo (such as paint shop pro tutorials or something). Suggest some places I can get content, like maybe a cgi script I am looking for.

I want suggestions, not a total "I really think your site stinks". It hurts my feelings. And I repeat, I am not a professional web designer. If i was, I wouldn't be asking for a site review.

I have been waiting over a minute for it to load. I'm not waiting any longer, I just don't have the time to wait for a site. I am on a cable connection right now too. Sorry, but I'm not waiting for it to load and I can't do a review since there is nothing to review.

It should load in less than a minute. I am connected on a 56K modem. Maybe you have a poor browser.

Every other site works fine. I don't know what the problem could be. Maybe I was running to many things?

Clueless: there are plenty of freeware/shareware programs with which you can do grphics and site design. Don't think you have to spend money on software.
