This is a ruff layout of a family website i am thinking about doing, just so i can host my pics/jokes and what not. This is just the base of what i am going for and am really looking for some good suggestions on what i can do to make it more "user friendly" Another thing i would like to do is have recent forum topics on the home page if possible. So tell me what ya think: http://www.theprovinceweb.net/

Hmmm... Looks ok considering is your first site that youve made (meaning I see from your links you have a bunch of forums, but coding or making a site from hand is different)...

First the logo is quite ok, but its really pixelated and doesnt seem to connect with your family or the theme of the site... Why not make it a whole image that includes your family name... and why the texts "Province Family Personal Web Hosting Site"... are you offering a hosting solution??? Why not just "thePROVINCEweb" together with a logo...

I like the gradient effect on the background, but then its like it belongs somewhere else, you have division lines that dont connect, and a bunch of misalignments, You have a good use of font sizes, also clear and upfront but you need to find a way to present it more creatively...

the navigation links could do better too... Why not practice editing this site by hand, since it seems that you used frontpage. Also you dont need to put the links there at the bottom. Only the copyright should be there... If you need to put a webmasters link at the site, why not locate it at the side and put a description about the webmasters or pictures, to make it feel a little homey.

The site hosted could be located somewhere else, and the site made should be deleted... You dont need to tell everyone your site is made by frontpage...

This is a good start, keep thinking to Keep it simple... Good luck with this...

Your site is okay. I think the site is clean and straight to the point and that's good.

De real.

Well...

I knew the minute it loaded that it was a Front Page site. It has the 'I used a Front Page Template' look about it..

How about comimg up with a unique design?

That said....

Things need fixing...the text is sitting too close to the edges of table cells...you need some padding in there.

The gallery pages need some organization instead of just vertical rows of photos.

As expected with Front Page the code is a mess, and also is missing a lot of important things.

• There is no Doctype
• There are no keyword and descriptive meta tags for searcg engines

You'd be wise to check out learning about code at the W3C Schools.

Okay folks, i took your advise and i re did most of it, including a new style and home page, and i cleared up the tables and stuff a little bit. I am not looking for this site to appear in search engines. I am making this a place to unifiy a deeply divided family. I am still working on things like the forums, which i have installed a background similar to the rest of the site on it. (I am proud of that considering everytime i mess with code i tend to screw it up. So please i am looking for a little more advise on how to make the site more welcoming and laid out.

nice and clear. a bit basic though (hopefuly, you'll continue to update). try using tables to create somethign just a little more eye catching.

visit htmlgoodies.com they've got alot of tutorials on adding things like tables etc.

also visit freeserifsoftware.com to download a free Professional painting program and design an eye catching logo.

Decent effort though Wink
