Review: HotAppz.com
Hello people,
I was looking and looking for a software repository script. From last 3 years.
Then I finally got some time and made my own script for it.
Please review it and let me know how it is. Also please comment on it

This looks good. I like the bright colours you've used in the design. It is easy to figure out what this site has to offer and to find my way around.
I think the top section is a little red heavy. I would make that traffic boost special ad in other colours - probably the yellows and green that appear below the fold. The logo does need some work. The good design makes it slightly less noticeable but it is very plain and boring looking. It should also stand out more from the red background. APPZ should be white so there is more contrast with the background - same with the little tagline below.
Navigatig around - I think the top section should condense a bit on the content pages. Leave the main navigation but omit the special Traffic Blast ad and remove the statistics from under the search so that section takes up less space.
I'm finding the two tone headers to be a little hard to read. A subtle gradient might work better there. That line between the two colours is right in the middle of the text and makes it a little hard to read.
I'm not sure what that graphic is under the left navbar. It looks like there's text on there but it's very hard to read. I'm guessing it might be an ad of some sort but it is so fuzzy that it's impossible to tell.
I did a search for "HTML Editor" just to try out the serach function and got a bunch of audio/MP3 tools. So that's a problem. I did, however find a piece of software I've been wishing for for awhile so that's a happy coincidence
I do like the way the items are presented. There is enough space between the key details, they are attractively presented and easy to read.
The sub-navigation on the category pages should be a little more prominent. It matched that Traffic Blast ad so I just scrolled on past it without reading it at all. A lot of the categories were empty, so that was disappointed. I expected to find something matching my search for an HTML editor under the HTML tools but there is nothing of the sort there.
So, now that I've been browsing around I wanted to go back to find that MP3 tag editor again. So this time I eentered "Mp3 tag editor" in the search but the software I was looking at before did not come up first - it's halfway down the page with some less relevant results above it. Make sure that search works as well as possible for the user.
When I clicked on download I got a warning page that the download will start soon. This doesn't look as nice as the other pages. Same header, but default TNR text and no rounded corners like the other pages had. My download did not start automatically so I had to click on the link (annoying). I'm using Opera 8.51.
Overall the presentation is good but some of the functionality needs work. Usability is above average so that's important.

First of all let me tell you that you have great programs listed on your site & some seems very useful to me. Thanks for giving me a chance to visit your site.
Color scheme looks attractive, but too many color confuse my eyes a little. But no doubt the choice of color you have done is too wise so again it seems perfect.
Your ad area that is on very top, saying 'Ads by Hotappz' don't really attract me to click on the ad and moreover makes me get a view that ads are on your top criteria, I think you should get the space somewhere else rather then very top.
I think your search area has some error, don't really know what, but when i tried searching for few applications it din't gave me conclusive results. Though those applications were listed on your pages.
In your Network & Internet category > when i clicked on FTP Clients it took me to a error page - 403 error 'You are not authorised to view this page'
Preview thumbnails not available on few of your applications.
like : AccessForms2web & EPIware 2.1 (also listed twice)
My view is 1026 and in that i get blank space on both the side, i think you have not made width to 100% or rather you like it that way, but my personal choice is I don't like blank spaces to view on a site.
Like wise your site is resourceful and I am sure with time you will be adding even more of the applications. Good luck for the creation.

While the layout and colour scheme aren't to bad on the eyes there are way to many link colours. It makes browsing your site a chore as you have to hunt for what is a link and whats text. Hunting makes people loose interest or forget what they were doing as they are to busy looking for what could be a link to some information.
Heres one small example:
Web Development Sort by: Title Date Size Company Category
Matches: 11 First Previous Page 1 of 2 Next Last
Thats exactly how it's on the page I am viewing now, the bold parts could be links as the top main links and side links are bold, but they aren't. The text is the same colour as the links, so out of all those words what are links are what aren't? 6 of the 10 are links, which 10?
There are a couple of underlined words throug out the site - they aren't links either. There is a url at the top of the page (starting with http) but thats not a link either.
The images on the preview page are resized with html tags, NEVER resize with html width and height, resize the image, your using php so make use of the GD options and create the thumbnails on the fly or use ifranview or similar to create them for you.
Again at bottom of preview page you have the price, os, details etc in coloured text, yet they are very similar colours to the coloured link buttons just under them.
nice layout but just to hard to navigate and know whats what.

Great site but three menus confuses me.
Everything is nice but you can improve it.

Love the web page design and content. Very well organized. Only comment is on the colors scheme for the product section. For instance, you have yellow for
"Download" purple for "Review". I would choose the same color like "Aqua" blue.
It is easy on the eye. Good luck with the website.

Nice looking site overall. I am going to critique you from an SEO perspective.
Your main keyword "sharewares" gets only 3,917 searches a month compared to "shareware" which gets 3,068,556 searches a month.
Your title tag targets "Download Sharewares" which only gets 8 searches a month.
If you want to rank for those words in the search engines that is fine but don't expect much traffic under your keywords.
The search engines will look at words in your title tag and your metakeywords to decide where to place you in the SERPs.
I cant see any tags in your page which is also important for rankings. You need your main target keyword to appear in an tag somewhere on the page. Preferably near the top.
