Review: GamerKit.com My own Gaming CMS
Hello members,
I saw many threads and many websites of gaming sites.
Some used iGaming, OneCMS, GameCMS, VGPortal etc. etc.
I also tried them all and even paid for VGPOrtal. But then as usual I was not satisfied so I made a CMS of my own and started everything from scratch.
Here it is: http://www.gamerkit.com
Please let me know your ideas. The content is not much right now but I am working on it.
Thanks.

It's okay, but it's just like every other gaming website out there. It has a dark grey/black color scheme with the black gradient link buttons. I'm sorry to say it like this, but big deal! You need something to set your site apart from others if you want a lot of visitors and people to stick around.
Some suggestions:
Go to your favorite gaming sites and jot down some things that you like about them, and some things that you don't like about them. Then, note some similar things about them and try to do something different. This will help your website grow and become unique and popular.
Good luck!

mscreashuns is right, there are too many sites that look like this. But looks aren't everything, form does follow function; so, provide something unique to this niche, but also do it while keeping the design in mind.
Have fun!

It's not all about layout and design, it's about content and I think it's very good. Well done.

Yes, but pardon my assumptions, but most gaming sites are going to have a lot of the same information since it's simply information. Sure, reviews and things like that are going to be different, but why would they come to your website when there are many others just like it. And, people aren't going to know that you developed your own script, and even if they did, they aren't going to care. All they care is what they get out of it - not what you put into it.

Well I think you people didn;t read what I have mentioned in the very first post. It is not like all other gaming sites on the internet. It has unique features. It has unique script developed by me. And it has unique design. Which I have templated. But still I don;t know why. Maybe the black color is common for the gaming sites. But without black it would not look like a gaming site.

Looks like a decent CMS. You appear to have put quite a bit of work into it, and as a programmer myself, I can appreciate that.
However, as others have implied, a great CMS alone will not cause gamers to flock to your site. Is the goal of your site to show off your CMS, or is the goal of the CMS to show off the site?

To be honest, I think there is far too much colour contrast on your front page. An effective and easy way to solve this would be to give your banner a black, visible border. This would then seperate the different colours.
On the content side of things, you seem to be going well. The layout is simple but it works. One suggestion from me however would be the change the gradient underneath the text, I don't know why but to me it just gives the visitor too much to look at in an already packed homepage.
Hope this helps,

thats a pretty awsome site you've built there!
did you do all teh graphics work yourself?
The only suggestions I can possibly make are as follows:
1. The text could be a little more padded as its quite squashed up in certain places.
2. You should take the time to ensure your sites are w3c compliant. I got quite a few errors whilst validating it. Complying with w3c reccommendations will mean your site is cross browser compatible and work in any full w3c compliant browser (IE is NOT a w3c compliant browser).
3. I think you have real talent here. The only other suggestion I can make is that you move away from table layouts and switch to pure css design. Its very beneficial, altough with sites like this it can be a right pain in the butt.
Well done my friend! excellent work.

I'll second that, let your text breath and be liberal with the padding.
On your game reviews/listings/preview pages I would like to see images next to the text if possible. Sometimes a picture alone is enough to make me click on a link.
My last suggestion would be for you to add a tagline under your title. "Gamerkit.com" doesn't really say a lot, and with so much competition you should definately let people know why your site is different/better. For example,
Gamerkit.com
234 game reviews/previews and growing!
Gamerkit.com
Game screenshot contest every month!
Anyway, you get the idea.

Everything seems kind of squished together. I agree pretty much all gaming sites seem to have a dark color scheme, but I allways liked the darker schemes better.
Also to help with the crowding, you might want to consider removing the menu at the very top of the page, since its pretty much all right there on the left side. other than that I like it

I think the site looks great, i much prefer fixed width sites, although it can make things look a little cramped, i dont think the dark colours help this, but i can see you want this to make it stand out as a gaming site.
Not many options within contact us, perhaps add an email address or two, depending on the query?
