OK, it worked now. I thought your site was very functional, I looked at it with IE and Firefox, and switched between 1280 x 1024 and 1024 x 768 resolutions and everything looked and worked fine for me.

I found your site bright, and easy to navigate, I did not try the upload and login functions, so I can't comment on that. The only thing I tought could be a bit different, was the Coderhome logo, I did found the font hard to read on it. That it though.

Your logo is a bit hard to read... it's bad enough that you've used a strange typeface, but with it overlaid on that distracting background it just turns to mush.

Also... I advise that until you are getting lots of traffic and have plenty of content, you should loose the advertising. You won't make any money from it yet anyway.

I think the big problem with this site is a lack of attention to detail. You can see little problems all over. Take, for example, the login box. The text is bumping up against the edge of the box and there is a big space in between the login text and the associated boxes. Other small problems:

  • The navigation menu is centered, which just means that it doesn't line up with anything. That would be best if it was extended all the way across. Then you could make the text a little bigger too.
  • The date is showing server time, which is different from my time (and why do you need the date on there anyway?)
  • The right side menu has text centered, which always looks unprofessional and is also widely spaced. It looks like you're trying to make them take up more space by centering and spacing them like that. And why a google search? Don't you think we know how to get to google? I'd guess that the majority of your visitors have a search bar installed in their browser too.
  • The Contact Us link appears in a box with the google ads. Why????
  • The banner ad is pushed off to the right of the main layout, causing horizontal scrolling at lower window widths.
  • You've got a validation button on there but the site does not validate.
  • I shouldn't have to read the documentation to get an idea of how the site works. Maybe a tagline such as "All your questions answered" or something more catchy than that would be useful. People should have an idea of what this is as soon as they hit the homepage.
  • Both right and left sidebars are too wide. They're making the content area very narrow. Really, there is no reason why you have to have a three column layout. Two may be perfectly suitable for your purposes.
  • I agree with Andy about the logo. The font might be workalbe if the 1's and 0's were on there (cheessy, overused programming image, those 1's and 0's). Take those out, and change the colour of "Coders" to something bright, like orange. Then put your tagline underneath, and make the whole thing alittle bigger while you're at it.

I think site has a lot of potential, you just need to pull the site together enough to make people want to jump in.

Thank you all for your comments. I have just finished getting it to W3C html 4.10 standards so things have changed a little for the worse. However your comments and input is invaluable and i will be getting onto the design layout and placing of certain things, asap.

Thanks Megan for taking the time and giving me a constructive and analysed critique.

Appreciated.

The layout looks good.
The organization is good too.
The color is too pale, hard to read light blue color.

The site is ready for some traffic, but I am sure people will get disappointed to visit an empty site.

Spend some time filling out the content yourself at first.
You have to do the initial work yourself. No pain no gain.

Just my 2 cents.
